{"id":43545,"date":"2023-02-23T12:03:12","date_gmt":"2023-02-23T17:03:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/autosector.com\/?p=43545"},"modified":"2023-02-23T12:03:12","modified_gmt":"2023-02-23T17:03:12","slug":"1138847_f1-ceo-we-will-never-go-electric","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/autosector.com\/?p=43545","title":{"rendered":"F1 CEO: We will never go electric"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Formula 1 CEO Stefano Domenicali has expressed his desire to keep the internal-combustion engine alive in motorsport&#8217;s top echelon, despite the push by some automakers and governments to fully embrace electric vehicles.<\/p>\n<p>In an in-depth interview with Italian newspaper <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ilsole24ore.com\/art\/da-imola-trono-ecclestone-f1-manager-orgoglioso-suo-paese-analogico-AE0aQnPC\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Il Sole 24 Ore<\/a> published on Monday, Domenicali said F1 \u201cwill never go electric\u201d when asked how the sport fits in the era of sustainability and electric mobility.<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"static-marker-video-player-primis\"\/><\/p>\n<p>He added that F1 aims to be carbon neutral by 2030, and that the lofty goal can be achieved by switching to 100% sustainable fuel\u2014something <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motorauthority.com\/news\/1136635_f1-developing-100-sustainable-fuel-in-time-for-2026-season\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">F1 and its partners are developing<\/a> in time for the 2026 season.<\/p>\n<p>Sustainable fuel, often called E-fuel, is any fuel in which the carbon circle is completely neutral so the carbon utilized to produce the fuel is the same quantity as the carbon emitted from the internal-combustion engine when burning the fuel. Porsche and its partners already have a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motorauthority.com\/news\/1135526_porsche-fills-911-with-first-drops-from-synthetic-fuel-plant\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">pilot plant in Chile<\/a> producing sustainable fuel.<\/p>\n<p>But F1 is not only developing the fuel for use in its race cars. The fuel is being developed with a view to having it eventually produced in quantities sufficient enough to supply most cars across the world.<\/p>\n<p>In his interview, Domenicali said by 2035, when some governments including the European Union have mandated that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motorauthority.com\/news\/1138774_eu-lawmakers-approve-rule-requiring-zero-co2-from-new-cars-by-2035\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">only vehicles with zero carbon emissions<\/a> can be sold, there will still be around two billion cars on the road equipped with internal-combustion engines, and that the carbon emissions of these could potentially be offset with sustainable fuel, like the one F1 is developing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cZero emissions can be achieved without having to change engines or throw away the entire fleet of vehicles that already exists,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Formula 1 CEO Stefano Domenicali has expressed his desire to keep the internal-combustion engine alive in motorsport&#8217;s top echelon, despite the push by some automakers and governments to fully embrace electric vehicles.
