{"id":43746,"date":"2023-02-27T06:02:23","date_gmt":"2023-02-27T11:02:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/autosector.com\/?p=43746"},"modified":"2023-02-27T06:02:23","modified_gmt":"2023-02-27T11:02:23","slug":"ford-extends-f150-lightning-production-pause-for-another-week","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/autosector.com\/?p=43746","title":{"rendered":"Ford Extends F-150 Lightning Production Pause For Another Week"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Ford has extended the production pause at its F-150 Lightning plant for an additional week following a battery issue that has resulted in one electric pickup truck catching fire early this month.<\/p>\n<p>On February 16, <a href=\"https:\/\/insideevs.com\/news\/652503\/ford-f150-lightning-production-paused-possible-battery-problem\/\" data-inline-widget=\"internal-links\" data-type-id=\"0\" data-params=\"%7B%22article_edition_id%22%3A%22652503%22%2C%22section%22%3A%221%22%2C%22alias%22%3A%22ford-f150-lightning-production-paused-possible-battery-problem%22%7D\">Ford said it expected vehicle assembly to be down through at least the work week ending February 24<\/a>, as its engineers determined the root cause of the issue and implemented production changes.<\/p>\n<p>Now it seems that may take a while longer, as the automaker has issued a press statement on February 24 announcing that production is suspended for another week, from February 27 through March 3.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s despite the fact <a href=\"https:\/\/insideevs.com\/news\/526332\/ford-sk-blueovalsk-extend-europe\/\" data-inline-widget=\"internal-links\" data-type-id=\"0\" data-params=\"%7B%22article_edition_id%22%3A%22526332%22%2C%22section%22%3A%221%22%2C%22alias%22%3A%22ford-sk-blueovalsk-extend-europe%22%7D\">Ford&#8217;s battery supplier SK<\/a> has resumed production of battery cells at its plant in Georgia. The statement sent to several news outlets, including <em>Teslarati<\/em>, reads as follows.<\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"10\">\n<p>&#8220;The teams worked quickly to identify the root cause of the issue.\u00a0We agree with SK&#8217;s recommended changes in their equipment and processes for SK&#8217;s cell production lines.\u00a0SK has started building battery cells again in Commerce, Georgia. It will take SK time to ensure they are back to building high-quality cells and to deliver them to the Lightning production line. Following the incident, <a href=\"https:\/\/insideevs.com\/ford\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-inline-widget=\"internal-links\">Ford<\/a> suspended production and issued a stop-shipment of the vehicles to dealers, though\u00a0it did not issue a stop-sale of F-150 Lightnings that were already on dealer lots when the issue was spotted.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The company said its engineers found no evidence of a charging fault.\u00a0Ford also said it is not aware of any incidents of this issue in vehicles that have been already shipped to customers and dealers. However, that doesn&#8217;t necessarily mean other <a href=\"https:\/\/insideevs.com\/ford\/f-150-ev\/\" data-inline-widget=\"internal-links\" data-type-id=\"1\" data-params=\"%7B%22make_alias%22%3A%22ford%22%2C%22alias%22%3A%22f-150-ev%22%7D\">F-150 Lightning<\/a> vehicles aren&#8217;t affected; it&#8217;s just that there are no reports of similar incidents yet.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Neither Ford nor SK have publicly revealed the exact issue that caused an F-150 Lightning to catch fire in a holding lot on February 4 in Michigan. Unless SK made a change in its production processes around that date, the issue may also impact battery packs built after the one that caught fire.
