{"id":45071,"date":"2023-03-15T12:03:38","date_gmt":"2023-03-15T16:03:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/autosector.com\/?p=45071"},"modified":"2023-03-15T12:03:38","modified_gmt":"2023-03-15T16:03:38","slug":"1139041_biden-administration-opens-2-5b-community-ev-charging-program","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/autosector.com\/?p=45071","title":{"rendered":"Biden administration opens $2.5B community EV charging program"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Biden administration on Tuesday opened applications for the first round of $2.5 billion in funding for EV charging infrastructure under a community grant program.<\/p>\n<p>The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law enacted in November 2021 includes $7.5 billion to help fund a national EV charging network, with the goal of building 500,000 EV charging stations by 2030.<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"static-marker-video-player-primis\"\/><\/p>\n<p>This newly directed program, the Charging and Fueling Infrastructure (CFI) Discretionary Grant Program, is one of two main funnels for that funding. Funding from both the Community and Corridor Programs can also be used for hydrogen, propane, or natural gas fueling infrastructure.<\/p>\n<div class=\"image_wrapper\" readability=\"7\"><img decoding=\"async\" name=\"tccimg_100830430_m\" title=\"2023 Toyota bZ4X at EVgo charging station\" src=\"data:image\/png;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAD\/ACwAAAAAAQABAAACADs=\" alt=\"2023 Toyota bZ4X at EVgo charging station\" width=\"640\" height=\"426\" data-width=\"1024\" data-height=\"682\" data-url=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/lrg\/2023-toyota-bz4x-at-evgo-charging-station_100830430_l.jpg\" data-src-h=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/hug\/2023-toyota-bz4x-at-evgo-charging-station_100830430_h.jpg\" data-src=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/lrg\/2023-toyota-bz4x-at-evgo-charging-station_100830430_l.jpg\" data-src-l=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/lrg\/2023-toyota-bz4x-at-evgo-charging-station_100830430_l.jpg\" data-src-m=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/med\/2023-toyota-bz4x-at-evgo-charging-station_100830430_m.jpg\" data-src-s=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/sml\/2023-toyota-bz4x-at-evgo-charging-station_100830430_s.jpg\" class=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n<p>2023 Toyota bZ4X at EVgo charging station<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p data-pm-slice=\"1 1 []\">This follows the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) Formula Program, which sets aside $5 billion for states and primarily applies its $5 billion to highway projects, creating more <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greencarreports.com\/news\/1137963_this-tool-reveals-future-road-trip-ev-fast-charging-routes\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">EV fast charging routes<\/a>, also mainly along <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greencarreports.com\/news\/1136500_us-states-ev-charging-plans-alternative-fuel-corridors\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Alternative Fuel Corridors<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p data-pm-slice=\"1 1 []\">The NEVI funding process began last year, with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greencarreports.com\/news\/1137165_35-states-get-the-green-light-for-7-5-billion-national-ev-charging-network\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">first plans submitted by states<\/a> in the summer and all of them approved by the end of September. The federal government <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greencarreports.com\/news\/1138788_biden-ev-charging-network-rules-outlined-even-tesla-must-comply\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">also outlined rules<\/a> for qualifying charging sites in September. That has a number of charging networks\u2014including Tesla\u2014vying for some of these funds.<\/p>\n<p data-pm-slice=\"1 1 []\">Addressing the needs of rural and urban communities could prove even more complex and will take a number of novel solutions. For instance, convenience stores want to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greencarreports.com\/news\/1134836_convenience-stores-want-to-bring-ev-charging-to-rural-america\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">bring EV charging to rural America<\/a>.
