{"id":47562,"date":"2023-04-17T12:03:29","date_gmt":"2023-04-17T16:03:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/autosector.com\/?p=47562"},"modified":"2023-04-17T12:03:29","modified_gmt":"2023-04-17T16:03:29","slug":"1139390_which-american-made-evs-qualify-for-full-7-500-tax-credit","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/autosector.com\/?p=47562","title":{"rendered":"Which American-made EVs qualify for full $7,500 tax credit?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p dir=\"ltr\">The revised Clean Vehicle Credit that was enacted last August as part of the Inflation Reduction Act immediately shifted to apply solely to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greencarreports.com\/news\/1136859_irs-2022-ev-phev-tax-credit-american-made\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">American-made electric vehicles<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">That may have been easy enough to understand; but the law also introduced new critical mineral and battery component requirements, and it\u2019s going to require paying attention to information that may not entirely be discernible from info on the window sticker.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"static-marker-video-player-primis\"\/><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The Department of Treasury just on March 31 posted guidance on the origin of battery materials, which will determine under the new rules whether buyers will be able to claim $3,750 or $7,500. That goes into effect April 18\u2014yes, tomorrow\u2014but the government has only today published an initial list of what does and what doesn\u2019t qualify for the full amount.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">As officials anticipated with the reveal of the guidance, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greencarreports.com\/news\/1139218_tax-credits-for-many-american-made-evs-will-drop-on-april-18\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">tax credit amounts for many American-made EVs will drop<\/a> April 18, although as automakers adjust their supply chains in response, the list will keep growing from this minimal state.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fueleconomy.gov\/feg\/tax2023.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">tax credit page<\/a> at the EPA\u2019s consumer-facing website, FuelEconomy.gov, will function as a go-to for shoppers, both in checking which category vehicles fall under and in seeing what they qualify for.<\/p>\n<div class=\"image_wrapper first_wrapper\" readability=\"7\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" name=\"tccimg_100869097_m\" title=\"2023 Ford F-150 Lightning\" src=\"data:image\/png;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAD\/ACwAAAAAAQABAAACADs=\" alt=\"2023 Ford F-150 Lightning\" width=\"640\" height=\"348\" class=\"first_image lazy\" data-width=\"1024\" data-height=\"556\" data-url=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/lrg\/2023-ford-f-150-lightning_100869097_l.jpg\" data-src-h=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/hug\/2023-ford-f-150-lightning_100869097_h.jpg\" data-src=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/lrg\/2023-ford-f-150-lightning_100869097_l.jpg\" data-src-l=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/lrg\/2023-ford-f-150-lightning_100869097_l.jpg\" data-src-m=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/med\/2023-ford-f-150-lightning_100869097_m.jpg\" data-src-s=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/sml\/2023-ford-f-150-lightning_100869097_s.jpg\"\/><\/p>\n<p>2023 Ford F-150 Lightning<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Before considering a vehicle under these new rules, keep in mind that you\u2019ll need to meet new requirements for income, as well as price caps on the vehicles themselves. The credit now only applies with a $300,000 adjusted gross income limitation of $300,000 for married couples filing jointly, $225,000 for head of household, or $150,000 for other filers.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Regarding the vehicle price caps, the new credit sets price limits of $55,000 for new cars and $80,000 for pickup trucks, SUVs, and vans. After some initial confusion over what constituted a car vs. an SUV, the Treasury Department <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greencarreports.com\/news\/1138665_treasury-lifts-ev-tax-credit-confusion-over-suv-price-cap\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">clarified the electric SUV list<\/a> in February.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">EVs and some plug-in hybrids purchased from August 16, 2022 through the end of 2022 qualified for the full $7,500 tax credit amount if they undergo final assembly in North America (including Mexico). At the start of 2023 those new requirements for income and vehicle price caps went into effect.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">One final note: This all applies to purchases, but the rules are different for leases.
