Still, consumer interest may still have a ways to go to meet U.S. climate goals, as a new poll shows that nearly half of U.S. adults may be considering EVs for their next purchase, while many are still concerned about <a href=\"https:\/\/insideevs.com\/news\/category\/pricing\/\" data-inline-widget=\"internal-links\" data-type-id=\"8\" data-params=\"%7B%22section_route%22%3A%22news%22%2C%22alias%22%3A%22pricing%22%7D\">high sticker prices<\/a> and a lack of <a href=\"https:\/\/insideevs.com\/news\/category\/charging\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-inline-widget=\"internal-links\">charging<\/a> stations.<\/p>\n<div class=\"table-wrapper\">\n<table width=\"100%\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0196\/5170\/files\/u28fvPMA.jpg?v=1681327535\" alt=\"\"\/><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table><\/div>\n<p><em>Above: A Tesla Model 3 (Image:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/evannex.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow sponsored\" aria-label=\"Casey Murphy (Opens PDF)\">Casey Murphy<\/a>\u00a0\/ EVANNEX).<\/em><\/p>\n<p>According to a recent poll, roughly four out of 10 adults in the U.S. who drive gas cars are at least somewhat likely to switch to EVs for their next vehicle purchase, as reported by the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.chicagotribune.com\/business\/ct-biz-electric-vehicle-poll-20230411-l3vu3llk7bhn3jhl2wjsmhx26m-story.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow sponsored\" aria-label=\"Chicago Tribune (Opens PDF)\"><em>Chicago Tribune<\/em><\/a>. The poll was jointly conducted by the Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research and the University of Chicago\u2019s Energy Policy Institute, and it suggests that there\u2019s still some room to grow when it comes to both charging infrastructure and EV prices.<\/p>\n<p>The joint poll was conducted between January 31 and February 15, and it included a total of 5,408 U.S. adult respondents. The study also utilized interviews from a recent NORC Panel, designed to be a microcosm for the U.S. population.<\/p>\n<p>Just 19 percent of respondents said they were \u201cvery\u201d or \u201cextremely\u201d likely to purchase an EV for their next vehicle, while around 22 percent said that they were \u201csomewhat likely\u201d to. The majority, 47 percent, said they were unlikely to buy electric. About 16 percent of these respondents said that the high sticker prices of EVs were not a factor in choosing not to go electric.<\/p>\n<p>Charging infrastructure was another primary concern discussed in the poll, as was noted by 75 percent of respondents saying it was unlikely they would\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/evannex.com\/blogs\/news\/beyond-going-green-here-s-why-you-should-buy-an-ev\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow sponsored\" aria-label=\"buy an EV (Opens PDF)\">buy an EV<\/a>, and about 50 percent of them calling it a major reason. Nearly 67 percent of the EV-rejecting respondents said they preferred gas vehicles, for either major or minor reasons.<\/p>\n<p>One such respondent included Robert Piascik, 65, who lives in a suburb of Columbus, Ohio.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m an internal combustion engine kind of guy,\u201d Piascik said. \u201cI can\u2019t see myself spending a premium to buy something that I don\u2019t like as much as the lower-priced option.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Piascik currently drives a 2017 BMW 3-Series, and he also likes the simplicity of rolling into a gas station and filling up in minutes.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe early adopters have to put up with a lack of infrastructure,\u201d Piascik added.<\/p>\n<p>Still, even Piascik says he doesn\u2019t have anything against EVs, and he even said he will likely consider purchasing one \u2014 at least when they become more affordable and their tech improves.<\/p>\n<p>Source:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.chicagotribune.com\/business\/ct-biz-electric-vehicle-poll-20230411-l3vu3llk7bhn3jhl2wjsmhx26m-story.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow sponsored\" aria-label=\"Chicago Tribune (Opens PDF)\"><em>Chicago Tribune<\/em><\/a><\/p>\n<p><em>===<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This article comes to us courtesy of\u00a0EVANNEX, which makes and sells aftermarket Tesla accessories.
