It promises sharp steering and \u201ca thrilling and nimble driving experience for all occupants,\u201d as part of the brand\u2019s ongoing focus on performance.<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"static-marker-video-player-primis\"\/><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">At a starting price expected around $60,000, the Polestar 4 will likely be a direct rival to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greencarreports.com\/news\/1139393_tesla-model-y-cost-now-dips-below-average-new-vehicle-ev-or-not\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Tesla Model Y<\/a> Performance, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greencarreports.com\/news\/1138609_ford-undoes-some-of-its-price-hike-on-the-2023-mustang-mach-e\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ford Mustang Mach-E GT<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greencarreports.com\/news\/1137790_2023-kia-ev6-starts-7-100-higher-drops-base-battery-version\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Kia EV6 GT<\/a>, as well as the upcoming <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greencarreports.com\/news\/1137841_2024-porsche-macan-electric-up-close-with-its-ppe-platform\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Porsche Macan Electric<\/a>, among others.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">In base form, the 4 will offer a single-motor version with rear-wheel drive, making 272 hp and 253 lb-ft. A heat pump is standard on the Polestar 4, and long-range versions of the 4 will get a 102-kwh battery pack, with a disconnect clutch allowing coasting at the front wheels at highway speeds when additional power isn\u2019t needed, to help boost efficiency and range.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">All versions include a heat pump, Polestar says, and 22-kw AC onboard charging will allow a full charge essentially as quickly as any home or commercial Level 2 charger will provide\u2014easily overnight if you can afford one of today\u2019s top 19.2-kw units and a dedicated 100-amp circuit. Polestar doesn\u2019t clarify how quickly the new model can charge on road trips\u2014probably the biggest ongoing shortfall in overall experience for the brand versus Tesla\u2014though it highlights DC fast-charging at up to 200 kw.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Polestar notes that the Polestar 4 isn\u2019t a modified version of the U.S.-bound, to-be-U.S.-made <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greencarreports.com\/news\/1136094_polestar-3-electric-suv-first-photos-american-made\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Polestar 3<\/a> fitted with a swoopier roofline. It\u2019s 190.5 inches long and 84.2 inches wide, riding on a long 118.1-inch wheelbase, but it\u2019s noteworthy that this is closer in height to a passenger car, at 60.8 inches high.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The full glass roof in the Polestar 4 has optional electrochromic functionality, while there\u2019s a \u201csoft tech\u201d theme inside drawing from sportswear\u2014with a tailored knit textile made of recycled PET, plus \u201canimal welfare-secured Nappa leather\u201d available. The 4 gets an infotainment system powered by Android Automotive OS and under close collaboration with Google, but here it\u2019s 15.4 inches and landscape-oriented, straddling the center console area\u2014with a pass-through storage area underneath.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Ahead of the driver is a 10.2-inch driver display, while a 14.7-inch head-up display covers most key info, including communication and navigation. Safety systems are informed by 12 cameras, 12 ultrasonic sensors, and one radar unit, all standard. A driver-monitoring camera is used for safety but doesn\u2019t record video, according to the company.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Polestar 3 production is due to start soon in China then shift to South Carolina, for the U.S., in 2024.
