{"id":48215,"date":"2023-04-26T00:03:16","date_gmt":"2023-04-26T04:03:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/autosector.com\/?p=48215"},"modified":"2023-04-26T00:03:16","modified_gmt":"2023-04-26T04:03:16","slug":"junkyard-gem-1992-mitsubishi-expo-lrv","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/autosector.com\/?p=48215","title":{"rendered":"Junkyard Gem: 1992 Mitsubishi Expo LRV"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/chrysler\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:0;\">Chrysler<\/a> did reasonably well selling first-generation <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mitsubishi-motors.qa\/en\/discover\/heritage\/explore-chariot\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:1;\">Mitsubishi Chariots<\/a> in North America <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autoweek.com\/car-life\/classic-cars\/a1701981\/junkyard-treasure-1985-plymouth-colt-vista\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:2;\">with Dodge\/Plymouth Colt Vista badging<\/a> during the 1980s, and so <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/mitsubishi\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:3;\">Mitsubishi<\/a> Motors decided to take a shot at selling the second-generation Chariots with its own company&#8217;s badges when those vehicles went into production in 1991. Those vehicles <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thedrive.com\/news\/39722\/a-love-letter-to-the-forgotten-mitsubishi-expo-the-best-van-wagon-thing-of-the-90s\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:4;\">were known as Mitsubishi Expos here<\/a>, with sales beginning in the 1992 model year and continuing through 1995. Here&#8217;s one of those ultra-rare first-year Expos, found in a Colorado self-service car graveyard recently.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"grp-full\" src=\"https:\/\/o.aolcdn.com\/images\/dims3\/GLOB\/legacy_thumbnail\/1200x675\/format\/jpg\/quality\/85\/https:\/\/s.aolcdn.com\/os\/ab\/_cms\/2023\/03\/16163703\/03-1992-Mitsubishi-Expo-LRV-in-Colorado-junkyard-photo-by-Murilee-Martin.jpg\" alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n<p>The Chariot line had split into two in its home market by that time, with the regular four-door wagons still called Chariots and a shortened three-door version given the RVR name, which stood for <strong>R<\/strong>ecreational <strong>V<\/strong>ehicle <strong>R<\/strong>unner (actually \u042fVR, with the Cyrillic first character). In the United States, the Chariot was sold as the Expo Wagon while the \u042fVR was dubbed the Expo LRV.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"grp-full\" src=\"https:\/\/o.aolcdn.com\/images\/dims3\/GLOB\/legacy_thumbnail\/1200x675\/format\/jpg\/quality\/85\/https:\/\/s.aolcdn.com\/os\/ab\/_cms\/2023\/03\/16163744\/55-1992-Mitsubishi-Expo-LRV-in-Colorado-junkyard-photo-by-Murilee-Martin.jpg\" alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n<p>The LRV&#8217;s door setup is a bit odd. On the driver&#8217;s side, there&#8217;s just one door.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"grp-full\" src=\"https:\/\/o.aolcdn.com\/images\/dims3\/GLOB\/legacy_thumbnail\/1200x675\/format\/jpg\/quality\/85\/https:\/\/s.aolcdn.com\/os\/ab\/_cms\/2023\/03\/16163700\/00-1992-Mitsubishi-Expo-LRV-in-Colorado-junkyard-photo-by-Murilee-Martin.jpg\" alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n<p>On the passenger side, there&#8217;s a sliding rear door (with interlock to prevent it from tearing off the fuel-filler door if it&#8217;s open). In right-hand-drive markets, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=4-sf8eqUfGQ\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:5;\">Mitsubishi put the slider on the left side<\/a> while keeping the fuel filler on the right.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"grp-full\" src=\"https:\/\/o.aolcdn.com\/images\/dims3\/GLOB\/legacy_thumbnail\/1200x675\/format\/jpg\/quality\/85\/https:\/\/s.aolcdn.com\/os\/ab\/_cms\/2019\/12\/15000222\/00-1992-Eagle-Summit-AWD-in-California-junkyard-photo-by-Murilee-Martin.jpg\" alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Chrysler sold its own versions of the \u042fVR, of course. The Eagle version <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/2019\/12\/21\/junkyard-gem-1992-eagle-summit-awd-wagon\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:6;\">was known as the Summit Wagon<\/a>.<\/p>\n<lite-youtube videoid=\"qJDIyHFw9TE\" data-thumbnail=\"\"\/>\n<p><a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/dodge\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:7;\">Dodge<\/a> and Plymouth <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/car-dealers\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:8;\">dealers<\/a> sold the \u042fVR as the Colt Vista.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"grp-full\" src=\"https:\/\/o.aolcdn.com\/images\/dims3\/GLOB\/legacy_thumbnail\/1200x675\/format\/jpg\/quality\/85\/https:\/\/s.aolcdn.com\/os\/ab\/_cms\/2023\/03\/16163727\/30-1992-Mitsubishi-Expo-LRV-in-Colorado-junkyard-photo-by-Murilee-Martin.jpg\" alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Since this is the base-model Expo LRV for 1992, it has the 1.8-liter SOHC <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Mitsubishi_4G9_engine#4G93\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:9;\">4G93 engine<\/a>, sending 113 horsepower and 116 pound-feet in the <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/article\/best-power-generators\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:10;\">general<\/a> direction of the front wheels. The all-wheel-drive and Sport versions got <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Mitsubishi_Sirius_engine#4G64\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:11;\">a 2.4-liter 4G64<\/a> rated at 136 horsepower and 145 pound-feet.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"grp-full\" src=\"https:\/\/o.aolcdn.com\/images\/dims3\/GLOB\/legacy_thumbnail\/1200x675\/format\/jpg\/quality\/85\/https:\/\/s.aolcdn.com\/os\/ab\/_cms\/2023\/03\/16163728\/32-1992-Mitsubishi-Expo-LRV-in-Colorado-junkyard-photo-by-Murilee-Martin.jpg\" alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n<p>The <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/category\/emissions\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:12;\">emissions<\/a> sticker tells <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/cars-for-sale\/vcond-Used\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:13;\">us that this car<\/a> was sold new in California.
