Meanwhile the larger Vingroup will contribute $500 million. Additional funding could support the company&#8217;s ambitious expansion plans in the meantime.<\/p>\n<p>Vinfast started out selling gasoline cars based on older BMW designs in its home market before switching to EVs and setting its sights on the U.S., starting with the VF 8 electric SUV. It plans to follow up the VF 8 with the three-row VF 9, plus <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greencarreports.com\/news\/1138372_vinfast-details-smaller-vf-6-and-vf-7-confirms-us-vf-8-deliveries\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">smaller VF 6, VF 7<\/a>, and VF 5 electric SUVs. All vehicles are currently produced in Vietnam, but Vinfast has plans for additional factories <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greencarreports.com\/news\/1134668_vietnam-s-vinfast-reveals-evs-plans-factories-in-us-and-germany\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">in the U.S. and Germany<\/a>. The U.S. factory, located in North Carolina, is slated to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greencarreports.com\/news\/1135450_vinfast-plans-to-build-evs-in-north-carolina-starting-in-2024\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">start building cars in 2024<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p data-pm-slice=\"1 1 []\">However, an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greencarreports.com\/news\/1135679_vinfast-vf8-test-drive-review-photos-price-specs-range-info\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">earlier drive of a prototype<\/a> a year ago signaled that the VF 8 had a long way to go.
