{"id":48447,"date":"2023-04-28T06:03:26","date_gmt":"2023-04-28T10:03:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/autosector.com\/?p=48447"},"modified":"2023-04-28T06:03:26","modified_gmt":"2023-04-28T10:03:26","slug":"nevs-emily-gt-saab-inspired-ev-reveal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/autosector.com\/?p=48447","title":{"rendered":"Secretive NEVS Emily GT Revealed As Saab-Inspired Stillborn Electric Sports Sedan"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>NEVS, the Chinese-backed company that acquired Saab in 2019 after the Swedish carmaker\u2019s multiple financial troubles, has revealed a never-before-seen all-electric sports sedan known as the Emily GT.<\/p>\n<p>The working, driving EV was developed in just ten months from scratch and, just like the <a href=\"https:\/\/insideevs.com\/news\/319118\/saab-restarts-production-pure-electric-version-of-9-3-coming-in-2015\/\" data-inline-widget=\"internal-links\" data-type-id=\"0\" data-params=\"%7B%22article_edition_id%22%3A%22319118%22%2C%22section%22%3A%221%22%2C%22alias%22%3A%22saab-restarts-production-pure-electric-version-of-9-3-coming-in-2015%22%7D\">Saab<\/a> brand that precedes it, it has a really interesting story as well as a tragic end because NEVS\u2019 owner \u2013 the now-infamous Evergrande real estate group \u2013 decided to put an end to all product development.<\/p>\n<p>The project began in 2019 in Trollhattan, the original hometown of Saab, where NEVS continued working and even developed an <a href=\"https:\/\/insideevs.com\/news\/360952\/nevs-9-3-ev-production-china\/\" data-inline-widget=\"internal-links\" data-type-id=\"0\" data-params=\"%7B%22article_edition_id%22%3A%22360952%22%2C%22section%22%3A%221%22%2C%22alias%22%3A%22nevs-9-3-ev-production-china%22%7D\">all-electric version of the aging 9-3 sedan<\/a> that went on to be assembled in a brand-new factory in China.<\/p>\n<p>Saab\u2019s former Brand Design Chief, Simon Padian, is credited with leading the Emily GT project and his previous involvement in models like the last-generation Saab 9-5 is evident in the way the secretive EV looks like, especially in the C-pillar area, which is reminiscent of the former Swedish carmaker\u2019s models.<\/p>\n<p>According to <em>Carup<\/em> and <em>Saab Planet<\/em>, six working prototypes were built by a team of around 350 engineers and technicians, using four in-wheel electric motors that develop a combined output of 480 horsepower, with a subsequent version envisioned to offer 653 hp and a massive 1,617 pound-feet (2,200 Newton-meters) of torque.<\/p>\n<p>Peter Dahl, Program Director at NEVS, said that they used the <a href=\"https:\/\/insideevs.com\/porsche\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-inline-widget=\"internal-links\">Porsche<\/a> Panamera and <a href=\"https:\/\/insideevs.com\/porsche\/taycan\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-inline-widget=\"internal-links\">Taycan<\/a> as benchmarks during development, which is quite a high bar.<\/p>\n<div itemscope=\"\" itemtype=\"https:\/\/schema.org\/ImageGallery\" class=\"msnt-photo-thumb-gallery inline \"> <meta itemprop=\"name\" content=\"NEVS Emily GT\"\/> <meta itemprop=\"thumbnailUrl\" content=\"\"\/> <\/p>\n<div class=\"msnt-photo-thumb-gallery-main-photo\"> <a href=\"\/photo\/7248233\/nevs-emily-gt-prototype\/\" class=\"msnt-photo-thumb-gallery-main-photo-box\"> <picture class=\"lazyload\"><source type=\"image\/webp\" data-srcset=\" https:\/\/cdn.motor1.com\/images\/mgl\/Oo339l\/s5\/nevs-emily-gt-prototype.webp 213w, https:\/\/cdn.motor1.com\/images\/mgl\/Oo339l\/s6\/nevs-emily-gt-prototype.webp 445w, https:\/\/cdn.motor1.com\/images\/mgl\/Oo339l\/s4\/nevs-emily-gt-prototype.webp 889w, https:\/\/cdn.motor1.com\/images\/mgl\/Oo339l\/s3\/nevs-emily-gt-prototype.webp 1280w, https:\/\/cdn.motor1.com\/images\/mgl\/Oo339l\/s2\/nevs-emily-gt-prototype.webp 1440w, https:\/\/cdn.motor1.com\/images\/mgl\/Oo339l\/s1\/nevs-emily-gt-prototype.webp 1920w \" sizes=\" (max-width: 767px) calc(100vw - It is very easy and stable to drive. It has a unique balance between comfort and driving pleasure, but can still be a family car,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The NEVS Emily GT was designed to accommodate a huge, 175-kilowatt-hour battery pack that would allow a maximum driving range of over 620 miles (1,000 kilometers). However, the prototypes are using a 52 kWh battery taken from the aforementioned electric Saab 9-3.<\/p>\n<p>With a luxurious-looking interior and a 0-62 miles per hour (0-100 kilometers per hour) sprint in just 4.6 seconds, the prototype seems to be extremely promising and would make for a great <a href=\"https:\/\/insideevs.com\/tesla\/model-s\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-inline-widget=\"internal-links\">Tesla Model S<\/a> rival, if it made it into production. Even Christian von Koenigsegg was impressed with the way the prototypes drive.<\/p>\n<p>But, as with Saab before it, NEVS and its Emily GT project seem to be doomed.<\/p>\n<p>Backed by the Chinese real-estate giant Evergrande, which was recently involved in one of the biggest financial scandals in Asia, NEVS has been put into hibernation and all development work has been halted.<\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"9\">\n<p>\u201dThe project is about 1.5 years away from being able to go into production. Everything is in place to take it further into production. The prototypes are completely drivable, except that the airbag and Autobraking systems are missing\u201d, said Peter Dahl for <em>Carup<\/em>.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>With this being said, it looks like the intellectual property related to the project, as well as all six prototypes, are for sale, so there is hope for this interesting Swedish project.
