The production version is due in 2024, and thought to be a tuned version of parent company <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motorauthority.com\/news\/1130939_renault-5-prototype-is-a-retro-styled-electric-car-inspired-by-the-r5\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Renault&#8217;s upcoming 5 hatchback<\/a> inspired by the original 5 of the 1970s, sold in the U.S. as the Le Car.<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"static-marker-video-player-primis\"\/><\/p>\n<p>The A290 Beta concept will make its debut on May 9 at an event in the U.K. to be presented by Alpine CEO Laurent Rossi and design chief Antony Villain.<\/p>\n<p>The concept&#8217;s arrival will also mark the start of the next evolution in Alpine&#8217;s naming strategy, where the first digit of a three-digit numerical portion of a vehicle&#8217;s name signifies the vehicle&#8217;s size and positioning, while the remaining two digits signify the vehicle as either a sports model or a lifestyle model. The A110 successor will use a platform being developed by Lotus for a sports car that will likely end up as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motorauthority.com\/news\/1033137_lotus-type-135-electric-elise-successor-due-in-2026-teased\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">an Elise successor<\/a>. Alpine&#8217;s hatch and crossover will use platforms from the Renault Nissan Mitsubishi Alliance.<\/p>\n<p>Alpine has also hinted at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motorauthority.com\/news\/1137792_alpine-developing-large-evs-ahead-of-possible-us-launch\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">two larger crossovers<\/a> likely sitting in the same segments as the Porsche Macan and Cayenne. These are expected to arrive from 2027 and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motorauthority.com\/news\/1138479_alpine-may-turn-to-geely-for-flagship-suv-platform\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">use platforms from Zhejiang Geely<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>These larger crossovers will be critical in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motorauthority.com\/news\/1138518_alpine-ceo-views-us-as-key-to-sales-goal\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">expanding sales of Alpine<\/a> to the U.S. and China, though a launch in those two key markets hasn&#8217;t been confirmed.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>French performance marque Alpine is close to unveiling a concept previewing the first member of its future electric fleet.
