It&#8217;s a bit of a turnaround in the composition of the Senate since a group of senators put the pressure on Biden in 2021 to start <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greencarreports.com\/news\/1131663_california-senators-push-biden-to-start-phasing-out-gasoline-vehicle-sales\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">phasing out gasoline vehicle sales<\/a>. California Democratic Senator Dianne Feinstein, a longtime advocate of clean vehicles and part of that group, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.senate.gov\/legislative\/LIS\/roll_call_votes\/vote1181\/vote_118_1_00098.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">didn&#8217;t vote<\/a> and that essentially allowed the measure to pass.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s not over yet, though. Biden has reportedly threatened to veto the legislation, which would require a two-thirds majority to overcome. That&#8217;s unlikely to happen given the current Senate makeup.<\/p>\n<p data-pm-slice=\"1 1 []\">The rules were to be a fit with California&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greencarreports.com\/news\/1128652_california-mandate-electric-trucks-all-ev-by-2045\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">mandate of electric trucks, starting in 2024<\/a>, and the state&#8217;s omnibus rules that impose limits on the truck fleet otherwise.
