{"id":48470,"date":"2023-04-28T09:03:42","date_gmt":"2023-04-28T13:03:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/autosector.com\/?p=48470"},"modified":"2023-04-28T09:03:42","modified_gmt":"2023-04-28T13:03:42","slug":"1130551_mclaren-p1-successor-reportedly-due-in-2026-with-v-8-hybrid","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/autosector.com\/?p=48470","title":{"rendered":"McLaren P1 successor reportedly due in 2026 with V-8 hybrid"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>McLaren held a dealer meeting on Tuesday where the company revealed details about a P1 successor and potential SUV, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autonews.com\/cars-concepts\/mclaren-plans-hybrid-2-door-flagship-dealers-say\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Automotive News<\/a> (subscription required) has reported, citing two dealer sources.<\/p>\n<p>According to the sources, the P1 successor will arrive around 2026 with a V-8 hybrid powertrain.<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"static-marker-video-player-primis\"\/><\/p>\n<p>The P1, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motorauthority.com\/news\/mclaren-p1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">launched in 2013<\/a>, features a similar powertrain, where the hybrid component consists of a plug-in hybrid setup with an electric motor sandwiched between the engine and transmission, plus a big battery capable of delivering pure electric range.<\/p>\n<p>However, the sources said the successor&#8217;s hybrid system will be 70% lighter, suggesting it may skip the plug-in hybrid technology in favor of a simpler setup where the electric motor aids the engine but can&#8217;t power the car on its own.<\/p>\n<div class=\"image_wrapper first_wrapper\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" name=\"tccimg_100419586_m\" title=\"McLaren P1\" src=\"data:image\/png;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAD\/ACwAAAAAAQABAAACADs=\" alt=\"McLaren P1\" width=\"640\" height=\"401\" class=\"first_image lazy\" data-width=\"1024\" data-height=\"641\" data-url=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/lrg\/mclaren-p1_100419586_l.jpg\" data-src-h=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/hug\/mclaren-p1_100419586_h.jpg\" data-src=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/lrg\/mclaren-p1_100419586_l.jpg\" data-src-l=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/lrg\/mclaren-p1_100419586_l.jpg\" data-src-m=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/med\/mclaren-p1_100419586_m.jpg\" data-src-s=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/sml\/mclaren-p1_100419586_s.jpg\"\/><\/p>\n<p>McLaren P1<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>One of the sources said horsepower will be much higher than in the P1, whose peak was 903 hp.<\/p>\n<p>Other details revealed by the sources include a new carbon-fiber monocoque with integrated seat backs, a new dihedral door design, 3D-printed suspension parts, and aerodynamic elements leveraging Formula 1 designs.<\/p>\n<p>The sources said McLaren also confirmed at the same dealer meet plans for a new class of vehicle arriving in 2028. They said Jamie Corstorphine, McLaren&#8217;s director of product strategy, teased that the vehicle may have four doors and four seats. Corstorphine is the same exec who in a 2022 interview said <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motorauthority.com\/news\/1136187_mclaren-exploring-an-suv\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">McLaren was exploring an SUV<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The sources also said McLaren confirmed plans to exclusively sell electrified cars by 2026, when a hybrid successor to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motorauthority.com\/news\/1139364_2024-mclaren-750s-improves-on-720s-with-more-power-less-weight-more-tech\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">new 750S supercar<\/a> is also due. This means the 750S, which was revealed this week, will be among the last McLarens powered solely by an internal-combustion engine.
