The company is also allegedly working on a new flagship model that will take the torch from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/2014\/03\/14\/2015-mclaren-p1-review-first-drive-video\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:3;\">the long-retired P1<\/a> and get Formula One-derived technology.<\/p>\n<p>Citing anonymous <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/car-dealers\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:4;\">dealer<\/a> sources, industry trade journal <em>Automotive News<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autonews.com\/cars-concepts\/mclaren-plans-hybrid-2-door-flagship-dealers-say\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:5;\">wrote<\/a> that the first four-door McLaren model will make its debut by the end of the 2020s. &#8220;[McLaren will] bring in another class of automobile in 2028. Stay tuned. It may have four doors and four seats,&#8221; Jamie Corstorphine, the British company&#8217;s director of product strategy, reportedly told dealers who attended a preview of future cars.<\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;ve heard <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/2022\/08\/30\/mclaren-suv-crossover-electric-rumor\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:6;\">rumors detailing a McLaren SUV<\/a> time and again, but four doors doesn&#8217;t necessarily confirm that an alternative to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/2022\/05\/10\/2023-bentley-bentayga-extended-wheelbase-ewb-reveal\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:7;\">the Bentley Bentayga<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/2023\/01\/10\/lamborghini-urus-performante-review\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:8;\">the Lamborghini Urus<\/a> is in the pipeline. The family-friendly model could take the form of a sedan, though that&#8217;s less likely given the current disinterest in that body style \u2014 especially at this price point. McLaren could follow <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/ferrari\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:9;\">Ferrari&#8217;s<\/a> lead and launch a four-door model that straddles two or more segments. Unveiled in 2022, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/2023\/03\/07\/ferrari-purosangue-review\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:10;\">the hot-selling Purosangue<\/a> blurs the line separating SUVs and station wagons.<\/p>\n<p>Regardless of body style and positioning, McLaren will develop the four-door model in-house. &#8220;They&#8217;re not going to partner with any other manufacturer to build that <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/car-dealers\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:11;\">car,&#8221; a dealer<\/a> told <em>Automotive News<\/em>. Details such as the platform and the engine it will use haven&#8217;t been released.<\/p>\n<p>The same sources claim that the top rung in the McLaren hierarchy will soon be occupied by a V8-electric <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/category\/supercars\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:12;\">supercar<\/a> designed as part of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/2019\/11\/13\/mclaren-elva-ultimate-series-800-horsepower-roadster\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:13;\">the Ultimate Series family of models<\/a>. Development work is ongoing, but dealers who attended the meeting said the yet-unnamed model will use a <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/hybrid\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:14;\">hybrid<\/a> system built around a new V8 engine developed in-house. It will be approximately 70% lighter than the hybrid system that McLaren puts <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/2022\/12\/15\/mclaren-artura-road-test\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:15;\">in some of its current cars<\/a>, and it &#8220;produces much more horsepower and delivers the power more directly to the transmission.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Formula One technology will trickle down to the flagship. Sources familiar with the project list a carbon-fiber monocoque with integrated seatbacks, 3D-printed parts in the suspension system, and F1-like aerodynamic technology as some of the car&#8217;s features. This approach to design should save weight, improve performance, and allow the firm to link its road cars to its <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/tag\/f1\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:16;\">F1<\/a> cars.<\/p>\n<p>McLaren hasn&#8217;t commented on the report, and it hasn&#8217;t detailed how it will expand its lineup. If the <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/category\/rumormill\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:17;\">rumor<\/a> is accurate, the flagship will make its debut &#8220;around 2026.&#8221; In the meantime, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/2023\/04\/25\/mclaren-750s-reveal-coupe-spider-more-power-lighter-720s\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:18;\">the 750S<\/a> (pictured) unveiled a few days ago will reach showrooms in the coming months.
