With up to 905hp and a 0 to 60 mph in under three seconds, is it enough to beat the <a href=\"https:\/\/electrek.co\/guides\/tesla-model-s-plaid\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Tesla Model X Plaid<\/a>? <\/p>\n<p><span id=\"more-296708\"\/><ins class=\"adsbygoogle author_ad ad-container adsbygoogle author_ad hide-lg author-in-content\" data-ad-host=\"ca-host-pub-5506057612223327\" data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-9669137141129422\" data-ad-format=\"auto\"\/><\/p>\n<p>The Lotus Eletre is expected to play a key role in the automaker\u2019s transition to a fully electric lineup. Lotus has pledged to release only all-electric production cars starting this year. <\/p>\n<p>Lotus\u2019s transformation began with the <a href=\"https:\/\/electrek.co\/guides\/lotus-evija\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Envija electric hypercar<\/a> \u2013 what the brand calls \u201cthe world\u2019s most powerful production car\u201d \u2013 in 2019 with 2000hp. However, getting your hands on one will cost you over $2 million.<\/p>\n<p>With plans to expand into broader markets under parent company Geely, Lotus announced it would release <a href=\"https:\/\/electrek.co\/2021\/08\/31\/lotus-announces-4-new-electric-vehicles-suv\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">four new EVs<\/a>, including two SUVs, another major first for the brand.<\/p>\n<p>Its first is an E-segment electric SUV model. The UK-based performance carmaker finally <a href=\"https:\/\/electrek.co\/2022\/03\/29\/lotus-pulls-the-sheet-off-its-new-100-electric-eletre-hyper-suv-fka-type-132\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">released the details<\/a> behind its first SUV, the fully electric Eletre, last March after several months of teases.<\/p>\n<p>Lotus says the new Eletre hyper SUV is part of a new breed of electric SUVs featuring the iconic Lotus sports car DNA evolved for a new generation of customers.<\/p>\n<p>Powered by twin electric motors generating up to 905hp, the Lotus Eletre can keep up with the best with 0 to 60 mph capabilities in under three seconds, but is it enough to beat a Tesla Model X Plaid?<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-can-the-lotus-eletre-keep-up-with-the-tesla-model-x-plaid\">Can the Lotus Eletre keep up with the Tesla Model X Plaid?<\/h2>\n<p>To put the new Lotus hyper SUV to the test, <em>Carwow<\/em> tested the supped-up Eletre R with 905hp in its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=U8EWcrRDd5c\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">latest video<\/a>. <\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed alignwide is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<p>\n<iframe id=\"post-youtube-video-1\" title=\"New 900hp Lotus Eletre review with 0-60mph &amp; 1\/4-mile TEST!\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/U8EWcrRDd5c?feature=oembed&amp;rel=0&amp;enablejsapi=1\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen=\"\">[embedded content]<\/iframe>\n<\/p><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Lotus Eletre SUV 0 to 60 mph test run (Source: Carwow)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Mat Watson from <em>Carwow<\/em> says the new electric SUV is, in a way, similar to the original Porsche Cayenne. The Eletre is designed to take Lotus in a new direction, as the Cayenne did with Porsche throughout the 2000s.<\/p>\n<p>As you can see, the Eletre is decked out with features like air scoops and active \u201cbreathing\u201d vents that open and close to cool the battery. Lotus designed the vehicle to be as efficient as possible.<\/p>\n<p>Lotus will sell two versions of the electric SUV, both loaded with twin e-motors and a 112 kWh battery. The entry-level model produces 603hp, while the upgraded \u201cR\u201d model can crank out up to 905hp. Prices start at $85,000, while the range-topping R trim will cost around $113,000.<\/p>\n<p>Watson tested the hyper SUV\u2019s performance on a quarter-mile run. The first run came in at 3.06 seconds.
