The new parts plant will support the production of GM\u2019s new electric truck, which is expected to ramp up in the second half of the year.<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"more-296908\"\/><ins class=\"adsbygoogle author_ad ad-container adsbygoogle author_ad hide-lg author-in-content\" data-ad-host=\"ca-host-pub-5506057612223327\" data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-9669137141129422\" data-ad-format=\"auto\"\/><\/p>\n<p>After <a href=\"https:\/\/electrek.co\/2023\/04\/03\/gm-sells-over-20k-evs-for-the-first-time-in-q1-led-by-bolt-ev-sales\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">selling over 20,000 EVs<\/a> for the first time in a quarter in Q1, GM\u2019s CEO Mary Barra says the automaker is ready for a breakout year. <\/p>\n<p>This comes despite the fact that GM will be <a href=\"https:\/\/electrek.co\/2023\/04\/25\/gm-announces-chevy-bolt-is-over-long-live-the-equinox\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ending Chevy Bolt EV and EUV<\/a> production, the cheapest electric model in its lineup, and best selling EV with 19,700 units sold in Q1. <\/p>\n<p>The news comes in the wake of a new era for <a href=\"https:\/\/electrek.co\/guides\/gm\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">GM<\/a>, based around its flexible Ulltium platform. An additional 50,000 square feet of office space would be included, documents fueled with the city of Auburn Hills, Michigan show. <\/p>\n<p>GM\u2019s new EV parts plant is near the Orion Assembly plant to help streamline production of the upcoming Silverado EV pickup.<\/p>\n<p>Although GM is planning to build the electric truck alongside the GMC Sierra at its Factory Zero in Detroit later this year, the automaker will expand to Orion as a second assembly in 2024. Altogether, GM expects to be able to build around 600,000 electric trucks annually.<\/p>\n<p>GM said in a statement:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\" readability=\"8\">\n<p>General Motors has identified the former Palace of Auburn Hills site as a potential location for a supplier park to support its Orion Assembly Plant, which will be expanded to produce electric pickup trucks.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>GM\u2019s already has 340 fleet customers for the new WT (Work Truck) Silverado EV edition, which will begin delivery later this quarter. The RST passenger version is expected to be available this summer.<\/p>\n<p>The City of Auburn Hills planning commission is expected to meet next week to consider the proposal.
