The site is in southeastern Laos, in the Sekong and Attapeu provinces, at an elevation of 1,200-1,600 meters (3,937-5,249 feet) above sea level. <\/p>\n<p>The 133-wind turbine wind farm will sell its power to state-owned Vietnam Electricity for 25 years. It will deliver the generated clean energy to central Vietnam through a 500kV transmission line. <\/p>\n<p>Last month, Japan\u2019s Mitsubishi Corp\u00a0said that it and other shareholders raised $692 million in financing for Monsoon Wind. According to Monsoon\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.monsoonwindasia.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">website<\/a>, the total project cost is $950 million.<\/p>\n<p>Southeast Asia\u2019s largest onshore wind farm is scheduled to come online in 2025. Check out the project\u2019s expected impact on the region in the video below:<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed alignwide is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<p>\n<iframe id=\"post-youtube-video-1\" title=\"Monsoon Documentary\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/ImpCqvbHOdk?feature=oembed&amp;rel=0&amp;enablejsapi=1\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen=\"\">[embedded content]<\/iframe>\n<\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p>Hydroelectricity currently makes up 70% of total power generation in Laos, and it has at least 10 onshore wind projects \u2013 3.6 gigawatts of projects \u2013 in planning stages. <\/p>\n<p>Landlocked Laos, which has an export-oriented energy policy, is keen to establish its reputation as the \u201cbattery of Southeast Asia.\u201d It\u2019s one of Asia\u2019s largest exporters of hydroelectricity. <a href=\"https:\/\/asia.nikkei.com\/Business\/Energy\/Southeast-Asia-s-battery-Laos-embraces-wind-power-to-sustain-energy-exports\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Nikkei Asia<\/a> notes:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\" readability=\"8\">\n<p>Around 80% of the power generated in Laos is sold to neighboring Thailand and Vietnam, accounting for 30% of the country\u2019s\u00a0exports by value.
