It\u2019s so small that it\u2019s hard to explain, but it does result in a discount on new inventory vehicles.<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"more-297174\"\/><ins class=\"adsbygoogle author_ad ad-container adsbygoogle author_ad hide-lg author-in-content\" data-ad-host=\"ca-host-pub-5506057612223327\" data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-4655152367470280\" data-ad-format=\"auto\"\/><\/p>\n<p>After consistently and gradually increasing its electric vehicle prices over the last two years, Tesla has started bringing those prices down in 2023 to keep demand up.<\/p>\n<p>It started with\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/electrek.co\/2023\/01\/12\/amid-demand-concerns-tesla-cuts-prices-by-up-to-13k-in-us\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">a big price drop in early January<\/a>, and then some smaller price adjustments after with the latest coming in February for<a href=\"https:\/\/electrek.co\/2023\/02\/12\/tesla-adjusts-electric-vehicle-pricing-us-again\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">\u00a0Model 3 and Model Y<\/a>, and last month for\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/electrek.co\/2023\/03\/06\/tesla-drops-model-s-x-prices\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Model S and Model X<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>We thought Tesla would take a break from reducing prices, but the automaker<a href=\"https:\/\/electrek.co\/2023\/04\/07\/tesla-tsla-slashes-price-across-electric-vehicles-again\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">\u00a0again slashed prices across its entire lineup<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/electrek.co\/2023\/04\/18\/tesla-slashes-price-again\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">again<\/a> last month.<\/p>\n<p>As we reported last night, <a href=\"https:\/\/electrek.co\/2023\/05\/02\/tesla-increases-model-y-3-prices-in-us-china-but-not-by-much\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Tesla updated its Model 3 and Model Y configurations<\/a> to increase the price of all trims by $250.<\/p>\n<p>The fact that the price adjustment is an increase, which goes against the trend this year, and a very small one is puzzling. <\/p>\n<p>Previously, Tesla has changed prices by up to several thousand dollars at once or as little as $500, but it\u2019s the first time the automaker has made an adjustment by such a small amount.<\/p>\n<p>While the small amount isn\u2019t likely to have much of an impact, it is still surprising that it is an increase considering <a href=\"https:\/\/electrek.co\/2023\/04\/27\/tesla-tsla-inventory-high-price-cuts\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Tesla\u2019s new vehicle inventory reached a new high last week<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>One thing that we didn\u2019t notice at first is that this time, the price change didn\u2019t affect Tesla\u2019s new inventory vehicles, unlike all the recent price decreases.<\/p>\n<p>Tesla generally adjusts new inventory vehicles, which are considered brand-new vehicles eligible for the federal tax credit just like new build orders, with every price adjustment, but not this time.<\/p>\n<p><em>Electrek<\/em> checked new inventory vehicles in the US and the same configurations are now discounted by $250 over new orders:<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignwide size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"3530\" height=\"1580\" src=\"https:\/\/electrek.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2023\/05\/Screenshot-2023-05-02-at-7.22.46-AM.jpg?quality=82&amp;strip=all&amp;w=1024\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-297175\" srcset=\"https:\/\/electrek.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2023\/05\/Screenshot-2023-05-02-at-7.22.46-AM.jpg 3530w, https:\/\/electrek.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2023\/05\/Screenshot-2023-05-02-at-7.22.46-AM.jpg?resize=150,67 150w, https:\/\/electrek.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2023\/05\/Screenshot-2023-05-02-at-7.22.46-AM.jpg?resize=300,134 300w, https:\/\/electrek.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2023\/05\/Screenshot-2023-05-02-at-7.22.46-AM.jpg?resize=768,344 768w, https:\/\/electrek.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2023\/05\/Screenshot-2023-05-02-at-7.22.46-AM.jpg?resize=1024,458 1024w, https:\/\/electrek.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2023\/05\/Screenshot-2023-05-02-at-7.22.46-AM.jpg?resize=1536,688 1536w, https:\/\/electrek.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2023\/05\/Screenshot-2023-05-02-at-7.22.46-AM.jpg?resize=2048,917 2048w, https:\/\/electrek.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2023\/05\/Screenshot-2023-05-02-at-7.22.46-AM.jpg?resize=350,157 350w, https:\/\/electrek.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2023\/05\/Screenshot-2023-05-02-at-7.22.46-AM.jpg?resize=140,63 140w, https:\/\/electrek.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2023\/05\/Screenshot-2023-05-02-at-7.22.46-AM.jpg?resize=1600,716 1600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 3530px) 100vw, 3530px\"\/><\/figure>\n<p>Again, the difference is not significant, but it is a change for Tesla and could indicate a new strategy to try to move some inventory, which again has recently reached new highs.<\/p>\n<p>What do you think?
