{"id":48989,"date":"2023-05-05T09:00:00","date_gmt":"2023-05-05T13:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/autosector.com\/?p=48989"},"modified":"2023-05-05T09:00:00","modified_gmt":"2023-05-05T13:00:00","slug":"subsea-cable-maker-nexans","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/autosector.com\/?p=48989","title":{"rendered":"This subsea cable maker is going to deliver 6 GW of offshore wind energy"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure class=\"img-border featured-image\">\n\t\t<img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"skip-lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/electrek.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2022\/10\/Nexans-subsea-cable.jpg?quality=82&amp;strip=all&amp;w=1600\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/electrek.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2022\/10\/Nexans-subsea-cable.jpg?w=320&amp;quality=82&amp;strip=all&amp;ssl=1 320w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/electrek.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2022\/10\/Nexans-subsea-cable.jpg?w=640&amp;quality=82&amp;strip=all&amp;ssl=1 640w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/electrek.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2022\/10\/Nexans-subsea-cable.jpg?w=1024&amp;quality=82&amp;strip=all&amp;ssl=1 1024w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/electrek.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2022\/10\/Nexans-subsea-cable.jpg?w=1500&amp;quality=82&amp;strip=all&amp;ssl=1 1500w\" width=\"1600\" height=\"800\" alt=\"subsea cable\" fetchpriority=\"high\"\/><\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p>You can\u2019t have offshore wind power without export cables, and cable maker <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nexans.com\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Nexans<\/a> just landed a <em>\u20ac<\/em>1.7 billion contract to deliver 2,160 km (1,342 miles) of subsea and land cables.<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"more-297808\"\/><ins class=\"adsbygoogle author_ad ad-container adsbygoogle author_ad hide-lg author-in-content\" data-ad-host=\"ca-host-pub-5506057612223327\" data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-9817249230503449\" data-ad-format=\"auto\"\/><\/p>\n<p>The Paris-based company will be working with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennet.eu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">TenneT<\/a>, which is the transmission system operator for the Netherlands and a large part of Germany.\u00a0Nexans has already supplied 320 kV direct current (DC) cables for TenneT\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nexans.com\/en\/markets\/power-generation\/offshore-wind\/DolWin6.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">DolWin 6<\/a> project, and it was awarded the BorWin 6 project in 2022.<\/p>\n<p>Nexans is going to manufacture and install high-voltage direct current (HVDC) cables to connect three grid connection projects \u2013 BalWin 3, LanWin 4, and LanWin 2 \u2013 to connect future offshore wind farms in the German North Sea that will provide a massive 6 gigawatts (GW) of energy. The subsea cable company says that major subcontracted works will be included once the project-specific call-offs are signed.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Last year, Nexans successfully developed and tested its first 525 kV DC cable that it says enables a \u201csubstantial increase\u201d in transmission capacity. The TenneT projects will be first in which the new, higher-capacity offshore cable technology will be deployed. Nexans is going to make them at its flagship factory in Halden, Norway.<\/p>\n<p>The whole project is expected to be fully operational by 2031.<\/p>\n<p>Referring to the energy crisis caused by Russia\u2019s invasion of Ukraine, Vincent Dessale, chief operating officer and senior executive vice president of Nexans, said of the agreement: <\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\" readability=\"10\">\n<p>The uncertainty of the energy supply has again underlined the need to invest in offshore grids throughout Europe.
