{"id":49126,"date":"2023-05-08T06:03:21","date_gmt":"2023-05-08T10:03:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/autosector.com\/?p=49126"},"modified":"2023-05-08T06:03:21","modified_gmt":"2023-05-08T10:03:21","slug":"lucid-free-test-drive-tesla-supercharger","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/autosector.com\/?p=49126","title":{"rendered":"Lucid Reportedly Tried Offering Free Test Drives At Tesla Supercharger In California"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>American EV startup Lucid seems to be trying everything it can to improve the delivery figures of its luxury all-electric Air sedan, including entering Tesla&#8217;s territory (or at least going very close to it).<\/p>\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/insideevs.com\/tesla\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-inline-widget=\"internal-links\">Tesla<\/a> owner and founder of <em>Tesla Console<\/em> Ryan Zohoury, a <a href=\"https:\/\/insideevs.com\/lucid\/air\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-inline-widget=\"internal-links\">Lucid Air<\/a> finished in Cosmos Silver and wearing \u201cTest Drive Car\u201d decals was parked directly opposite an 8-stall Supercharger station in West Hollywood a couple of days ago, with the <a href=\"https:\/\/insideevs.com\/lucid\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-inline-widget=\"internal-links\">Lucid<\/a> vehicle blocking two parking spaces and set up with its doors, hood, and trunk open.<\/p>\n<p>As per the Twitter post embedded below, the Lucid employees were trying to get the people waiting for their Teslas to charge to sign up for free test drives with the Air sedan, but as <a href=\"https:\/\/driveteslacanada.ca\/news\/lucid-attempts-to-lure-tesla-owners-with-free-test-drives-at-west-hollywood-supercharger\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>DriveTeslaCanada<\/em><\/a> notes, after forty minutes, nobody took up Lucid\u2019s offer.<\/p>\n<section class=\"embed-item\" contenteditable=\"false\" draggable=\"true\" data-widget=\"embed\" data-embed-code=\"%3Cblockquote%20class%3D%22twitter-tweet%22%3E%3Cp%20lang%3D%22en%22%20dir%3D%22ltr%22%3ELucid%20is%20seriously%20so%20desperate%20to%20sell%20cars.%20They%20sent%20someone%20to%20a%20Supercharger%20to%20try%20and%20get%20people%20to%20sign%20up%20for%20test%20drives%20but%20nobody%20was%20interested%20%F0%9F%98%AC%F0%9F%92%80%20%3Ca%20href%3D%22https%3A%2F%2Ft.co%2FSsuVCZfRQo%22%3Epic.twitter.com%2FSsuVCZfRQo%3C%2Fa%3E%3C%2Fp%3E%26mdash%3B%20Ryan%20Zohoury%20(%40RyanZohoury)%20%3Ca%20href%3D%22https%3A%2F%2Ftwitter.com%2FRyanZohoury%2Fstatus%2F1654919270986575873%3Fref_src%3Dtwsrc%255Etfw%22%3EMay%206%2C%202023%3C%2Fa%3E%3C%2Fblockquote%3E%20%3Cscript%20async%20src%3D%22https%3A%2F%2Fplatform.twitter.com%2Fwidgets.js%22%20charset%3D%22utf-8%22%3E%3C%2Fscript%3E%20\">\u00a0<\/section>\n<p>Moreover, none of the Tesla owners even walked up to the silver EV to check it out, which means it wasn\u2019t a very successful attempt at getting people to test drive the American luxury EV.<\/p>\n<p>Admittedly, with a starting price that\u2019s between $87,400 and a whopping $249,000, maybe the Lucid Air isn\u2019t best aimed at Tesla owners, considering <a href=\"https:\/\/insideevs.com\/news\/665283\/tesla-model-3-lr-awd-returns-us-configurator-has-325-mile-range\/\" data-inline-widget=\"internal-links\" data-type-id=\"0\" data-params=\"%7B%22article_edition_id%22%3A%22665283%22%2C%22section%22%3A%221%22%2C%22alias%22%3A%22tesla-model-3-lr-awd-returns-us-configurator-has-325-mile-range%22%7D\">the cheapest new vehicle made by the Fremont-based EV company<\/a> is now priced from about $40,000. Even the most expensive Tesla vehicles \u2013 the <a href=\"https:\/\/insideevs.com\/tesla\/model-s\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-inline-widget=\"internal-links\">Model S<\/a> Plaid and <a href=\"https:\/\/insideevs.com\/tesla\/model-x\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-inline-widget=\"internal-links\">Model X<\/a> Plaid \u2013 start at $107,490, which is less than half the price of the top-tier Lucid Air.<\/p>\n<p>As for the raw numbers, <a href=\"https:\/\/insideevs.com\/news\/662369\/lucid-air-deliveries-2023q1\/\" data-inline-widget=\"internal-links\" data-type-id=\"0\" data-params=\"%7B%22article_edition_id%22%3A%22662369%22%2C%22section%22%3A%221%22%2C%22alias%22%3A%22lucid-air-deliveries-2023q1%22%7D\">Lucid managed to quadruple deliveries in the first quarter of this year<\/a>, but it\u2019s worth noting that even so, the American EV startup got just 1,406 cars to customers. During the same period, 2,315 Air sedans were produced, which is 235 percent more than a year ago.<\/p>\n<p>At the same time, <a href=\"https:\/\/insideevs.com\/news\/662201\/us-luxury-premium-car-sales-2023q1\/\" data-inline-widget=\"internal-links\" data-type-id=\"0\" data-params=\"%7B%22article_edition_id%22%3A%22662201%22%2C%22section%22%3A%221%22%2C%22alias%22%3A%22us-luxury-premium-car-sales-2023q1%22%7D\">Tesla registrations amounted to roughly 170,000 in the US<\/a>, so for the time being at least, the two car brands are worlds apart in terms of sales figures.<\/p>\n<p>This isn\u2019t the first time a rival company has tried to lure Tesla customers to their EV offerings.
