{"id":49135,"date":"2023-05-08T09:03:28","date_gmt":"2023-05-08T13:03:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/autosector.com\/?p=49135"},"modified":"2023-05-08T09:03:28","modified_gmt":"2023-05-08T13:03:28","slug":"china-plugin-car-sales-march2023","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/autosector.com\/?p=49135","title":{"rendered":"China: Plug-In Car Sales Increased In March 2023 &#8211; 34% Share"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Plug-in electric car sales in China continue to increase, and March brought another solid result, indicating that electrification is going mainstream.<\/p>\n<p>According to <em>EV Volumes&#8217; <\/em>data, shared by Jose Pontes, some 563,334 new passenger plug-in electric cars were registered in China in March, which is 23 percent more than a year ago.<\/p>\n<p>More importantly, the market share of rechargeable cars improved to 34 percent, so more than one-third of the total volume.<\/p>\n<p>Even more impressive is that all-electric cars represent 24 percent of the total number of new registrations, so almost one in four.<\/p>\n<p>Results for the month:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>BEVs: *398,000 and 24% share<\/li>\n<li>PHEVs: *166,000 and 10% share<\/li>\n<li>Total: 563,334 (up 23% year-over-year) and 34% share<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>* estimated from the market share<\/p>\n<section class=\"trinity-skip-it\" contenteditable=\"false\" draggable=\"true\" data-widget=\"special_image\" data-align=\"center\">\n<div class=\"spi_wrapper\"><a class=\"lightzoom\" href=\"https:\/\/cdn.motor1.com\/images\/custom\/plug-in-electric-car-sales-in-china-february-2023.png\"> <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"custom-image\" draggable=\"false\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.motor1.com\/images\/custom\/thumbnail\/plug-in-electric-car-sales-in-china-february-2023.png\" alt=\"external_image\" width=\"924\" height=\"464\" loading=\"lazy\"\/> <\/a><\/div>\n<\/section>\n<p>So far this year, more than 1.36 million new plug-in electric cars were registered in China (up roughly 22 percent year-over-year), which is about 33 percent of the total volume.<\/p>\n<p>Results year-to-date:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>BEVs: about *0.91 million and 22% share<\/li>\n<li>PHEVs: about *0.46 million and 11% share<\/li>\n<li>Total: 1,368,677 (up 22% year-over-year) and 33% share<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>* estimated from the market share<\/p>\n<p>For reference, <a href=\"https:\/\/insideevs.com\/news\/651363\/china-plugin-car-sales-december2022\/\">in 2022, over 5.92 million new passenger plug-in electric cars were registered in China<\/a> (83 percent more than in 2021).<\/p>\n<p>One of the most interesting findings is that the list of the 10 most registered cars in China was dominated by plug-ins in April, with the Tesla Model Y at the top (for the third time ever, thanks to 54,937 registrations).<\/p>\n<p>Then we can see four BYD models (Qin Plus family, Song family, Yuan Plus, and Dolphin) and only two conventional models (Volkswagen Lavida #7 and Nissan Sylphy #8). This is a major shift when plug-ins and, specifically, all-electric models are selling better than internal combustion engine cars in China.<\/p>\n<p>Top 10 plug-ins for the month:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Tesla Model Y: 54,937<\/li>\n<li>BYD Qin Plus (BEV + PHEV): 40,215<\/li>\n<li>BYD Song Plus (BEVs + PHEVs): 40,114<\/li>\n<li>BYD Yuan Plus (aka Atto 3) BEV: 27,907<\/li>\n<li>BYD Dolphin: 27,687<\/li>\n<li>GAC Aion S: 26,392<\/li>\n<li>Wuling Hong Guang MINI EV: 23,159<\/li>\n<li>Tesla Model 3: 21,726<\/li>\n<li>BYD Han (BEV + PHEV): 13,834<\/li>\n<li>GAC Aion Y: 13,267<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>After the first three months, the BYD Song Plus remains at the top with a huge advantage over other models, but it&#8217;s no longer the best-selling one.<\/p>\n<p>Top 10 plug-ins year-to-date:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>BYD Song Plus (BEVs + PHEVs): 142,379<\/li>\n<li>Tesla Model Y: 94,647<\/li>\n<li>BYD Qin Plus (BEV + PHEV): 79,239<\/li>\n<li>BYD Yuan Plus (aka Atto 3) BEV: 72,683<\/li>\n<li>Wuling Hong Guang MINI EV: 69,842<\/li>\n<li>BYD Dolphin: 67,658<\/li>\n<li>GAC Aion S: 48,310<\/li>\n<li>Tesla Model 3: 42,782<\/li>\n<li>BYD Han (BEV + PHEV): 38,314<\/li>\n<li>BYD Tang (BEV + PHEV): 32,873<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>* BEV and PHEV versions of the same models were counted together in the source.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/insideevs.com\/byd\/\">BYD<\/a> is the most popular brand and automotive group in China, although, after March, its advantage slightly decreased.
