Monolith\u2019s methane pyrolysis process instead splits the methane molecule into carbon and hydrogen, using renewable electricity.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"static-marker-video-player-primis\"\/><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Carbon black is an essential ingredient in tires for its tear and abrasion resistance. Because of their added weight and higher torque output, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greencarreports.com\/news\/1129002_here-s-why-electric-vehicles-need-different-tires\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">EVs need different tires<\/a>, too. But it did note that it\u2019s investigating with Monolith the potential expanded use of carbon black made from methane derived from waste sources.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">In 2019, Bridgestone claimed to be the first tire company to make <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greencarreports.com\/news\/1126146_bridgestone-cuts-carbon-emissions-by-using-recovered-carbon-black-for-new-tires\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">tires with recovered carbon black<\/a> from other industrial processes, and last year it said it\u2019s looking at bringing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greencarreports.com\/news\/1137179_bridgestone-natural-rubber-tires-sustainable-southwest-crop\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">natural rubber back into tires<\/a>. Goodyear in a 2022 showed a demonstration <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greencarreports.com\/news\/1134669_goodyear-shows-how-to-make-tires-with-less-petroleum-emissions\">tire made of 70% sustainable materials<\/a>, then just a year later, this January it <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greencarreports.com\/news\/1138390_goodyear-shows-fuel-saving-tire-with-90-sustainable-materials\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">upped the ante to 90%<\/a>. The most recent tire considered carbon black from four different sources.
