Tesla has sold about 1.13 million cars since it arrived in China in 2014.<\/p>\n<p>Tesla plans to fix the issue with an over-the-air software update, which will allow drivers to have more control over the intensity of their regenerative <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/tag\/brakes\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:9;\">braking system<\/a>, which is at the core of the recall. Without more control over this system, which harnesses excess energy created when a driver takes their foot off the accelerator, drivers can experience unintended acceleration, according to Chinese regulators.<\/p>\n<p>The recall in China comes amid a tough year in the Asian market for Tesla. Following hefty price cuts at the start of the year, some <a href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/hundreds-tesla-owners-protest-after-missing-out-china-price-cuts-2023-1?utm_medium=referral&amp;utm_source=yahoo.com#:~:text=A%20Tesla%20can%20be%20up,protests%20at%20Tesla's%20Chengdu%20store.\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:10;\">Tesla owners in China protested<\/a> missing out on these discounts.<\/p>\n<h2>Tesla looks more and more like every other car company<\/h2>\n<p>This is Tesla&#8217;s second large recall this year. In the US, Elon Musk&#8217;s <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/electric\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:11;\">electric car<\/a> company <a href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/tesla-recall-fsd-ful-self-driving-issue-crash-software-update-2023-2?utm_medium=referral&amp;utm_source=yahoo.com\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:12;\">issued a recall in February on the more than 360,000 Teslas<\/a> equipped with its Full Self-Driving software. The company began <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/rolls_royce\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:13;\">rolling<\/a> out an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/tesla-updates-fsd-with-new-features-after-nhtsa-recall-2023-3?utm_medium=referral&amp;utm_source=yahoo.com\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:14;\">over-the-air fix in March<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Racking up recalls in the US and China is the latest sign that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/tesla-just-another-car-company-discounts-rentals-stock-2023-1?utm_medium=referral&amp;utm_source=yahoo.com\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:15;\">Tesla is maturing into just another car company<\/a>. Safety recalls are a common occurrence for large brands, and more likely to come in big batches when the company is building millions of vehicles a year.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Musk has spent much of this year applying some of the oldest tricks in legacy automakers&#8217; playbooks to pump up the company&#8217;s sales volumes, such as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/tesla-price-war-why-elon-musk-keeps-changing-prices-of-vehicles-2023-5?utm_medium=referral&amp;utm_source=yahoo.com\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:16;\">slashing prices<\/a> and offering incentives like free Supercharger miles.<\/p>\n<p>Musk has made it clear that 2023 is an important year for Tesla as it seeks to graduate from an early-adopter niche brand to a mass producer of vehicles.
