All of these Mercedes-Benz electric vans will be built on a shared set of components and modules that will underpin a wide range of future mid-size and large electric vans due from the company starting in 2026\u2014although it hasn\u2019t yet set an end date for internal combustion vans that will continue to be made.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"static-marker-video-player-primis\"\/><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The company hopes to see 20% of its vans be electric by 2026 and 50% by 2030. It also, according to the company, \u201cguarantees long-term profitability.\u201d<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Vehicles built on the .EA platforms will have a wider range of body styles and design attributes, compared to those built on ICE platforms. The front block is the same on all vehicles and includes the electric powertrain and front axle. A center block scales the vehicle length and accommodates different-size battery packs depending on the needs. And a rear module is offered with or without an electric motor.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">That means VAN.EA\u00a0is only available in front-wheel-drive or all-wheel-drive configurations, with no plans as of yet for a rear-wheel-drive configuration. That will mark a complete turnaround versus the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greencarreports.com\/news\/1138948_2024-mercedes-benz-esprinter-plugs-electric-vanlife-into-daily-work\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">rear-drive eSprinter vans<\/a> that are set to be made in South Carolina for deliveries starting later this year, but a return to the front-drive layout of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greencarreports.com\/news\/1130601_next-gen-mercedes-esprinter-electric-vans-revealed-arriving-to-us-around-2023\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">first-generation eSprinter<\/a> that wasn\u2019t sold in the U.S. That eSprinter was also developed around the idea of three core modules\u2014only in its case, around rear-wheel drive.\u00a0<\/p>\n<div class=\"image_wrapper\" readability=\"7\"><img decoding=\"async\" name=\"tccimg_100885056_m\" title=\"Van.EA - cargo and passenger\" src=\"data:image\/png;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAD\/ACwAAAAAAQABAAACADs=\" alt=\"Van.EA - cargo and passenger\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" data-width=\"1024\" data-height=\"576\" data-url=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/lrg\/van-ea--cargo-and-passenger_100885056_l.jpg\" data-src-h=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/hug\/van-ea--cargo-and-passenger_100885056_h.jpg\" data-src=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/lrg\/van-ea--cargo-and-passenger_100885056_l.jpg\" data-src-l=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/lrg\/van-ea--cargo-and-passenger_100885056_l.jpg\" data-src-m=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/med\/van-ea--cargo-and-passenger_100885056_m.jpg\" data-src-s=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/sml\/van-ea--cargo-and-passenger_100885056_s.jpg\" class=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Van.EA &#8211; cargo and passenger<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Mercedes breaks the type of electric vans it could make with VAN.EA\u00a0into two types: VAN.EA-P and VAN.EA-C.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">VAN.EA-P offerings will include luxurious private vans positioned to offer a range beyond 310 miles (driving cycle not disclosed)\u2014building on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greencarreports.com\/news\/1137981_mercedes-electric-vans-may-raise-the-efficiency-bar-test-suggests\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">eSprinter\u2019s already remarkable efficiency and range<\/a>. Mercedes says that they could meet the needs of a VIP shuttle service, larger active families, or as \u201ca locally CO2-emissions free mobile office.\u201d<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">VAN.EA-C vans will be aimed at the upscale portion of the delivery market, it says, with specific \u201cbuild from factory\u201d vans aiming at courier, express, and parcel (last-mile-delivery) uses\u2014as well as grocery vans, ambulances, or recreation vehicles.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Mercedes\u2019 VAN.EA plans also include electric RVs, it said, with factory-built mid-size and large vans on the way, based on this platform. It will also share features of the upcoming MB.OS operating system.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Mercedes claims that these models will be ready for SAE Level 2 assisted driving at launch and Level 3 automation (allowing the driver to direct attention elsewhere in some driving conditions) by the end of the decade. Worldwide, Mercedes says that 80% of its dealers serve both passenger vehicle and van customers, and the two divisions share IT and back-end systems.
