This is significantly different from Boston Dynamics\u2019 strategy, which involves selling way more expensive robots for more specific \u2013 mostly commercial and industrial \u2013 purposes. <\/p>\n<p>But they are still expected to compete with Tesla Bot, which is expected to be used in manufacturing facilities at first.<\/p>\n<p>Now Boston Dynamics CEO Robert Playter has commented on the new competition on the Lex Fridman podcast:<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed alignwide is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<p>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" id=\"post-youtube-video-2\" title=\"Boston Dynamics CEO on Elon Musk and Tesla's Optimus robot | Robert Playter and Lex Fridman\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/1cPAYh4Nq40?feature=oembed&amp;rel=0&amp;enablejsapi=1\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen=\"\">[embedded content]<\/iframe>\n<\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p>The CEO commented on Tesla getting into the robotics space:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\" readability=\"11\">\n<p>It brought a bright light to the work we have been doing for over a decade and I think that\u2019s only going to help. In fact, what we have seen, in addition to Tesla, we have seen a proliferation of robotic companies arise. [\u2026] It has brought excitement. Competitive juices are flowing. It\u2019s all good.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Fridman asked Playter about his company going in a similar direction as Tesla with a more general-purpose and cheaper robot.<\/p>\n<p>The CEO said that it is kind of why they released the following video:<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed alignwide is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<p>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" id=\"post-youtube-video-3\" title=\"Atlas Gets a Grip | Boston Dynamics\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/-e1_QhJ1EhQ?feature=oembed&amp;rel=0&amp;enablejsapi=1\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen=\"\">[embedded content]<\/iframe>\n<\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p>Playter explained:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\" readability=\"10\">\n<p>We wanted to show the world that we can do this parkour thing, but we can also pick up and move heavy things. If you are going to work in a manufacturing environment, that\u2019s what you gotta be able to do. For the reasons I explained earlier, it\u2019s not trivial to do so.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The CEO added that they plan to add more dextrous hands to Atlas, their humanoid robots. The hands were probably the most impressive part of <a href=\"https:\/\/electrek.co\/2023\/05\/16\/tesla-bot-sideshow-new-footage-robots\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Tesla\u2019s latest robot demonstration last week<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Playter added:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\" readability=\"6\">\n<p>Elon has seen the same thing. He is talking about using the robots in a manufacturing environment.
