Five-year financing costs amounted to $18,198, while the SUV\u2019s fuel costs totaled $16,756. Insurance, maintenance, and taxes accounted for the remaining operating expenses.<\/p>\n<p>On the opposite end of the spectrum, the <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/hyundai\/venue\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:15;\">Hyundai Venue<\/a> had the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/2024\/06\/19\/the-10-cheapest-vehicles-to-own-and-operate-over-5-years\/\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:16;\">lowest operating costs<\/a>, at $22,761.<\/p>\n<p>Though they were less expensive to operate than gas vehicles, several EVs tip the scales with heavy costs. The <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/porsche\/taycan\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:17;\">Porsche Taycan<\/a> had a $53,065 five-year cost, while the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/2021\/08\/02\/2022-audi-e-tron-gt-rs-e-tron-gt-drive-review\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:18;\">Audi E-Tron GT<\/a> cost $48,886 to run. The <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/bmw\/ix\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:19;\">BMW iX<\/a> was the third most expensive, at $45,076.<\/p>\n<p>Marketwatch did not use depreciation in its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/article\/most-expensive-cars-to-own-and-operate\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:20;\">running cost calculations<\/a>, but in a separate comparison it looked at the fastest- and slowest-depreciating gas and electric models. The Audi E-Tron GT depreciated much faster than the <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/audi\/a3\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:21;\">Audi A3<\/a>, at $7,796 over five years compared to $2,895 for the Audi A3.\u00a0 The <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/toyota\/rav4\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:22;\">Toyota RAV4<\/a> LE and <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/toyota\/rav4+prime\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:23;\">RAV4 Prime<\/a> had the lowest depreciation difference, with the gas model losing $3,761 in value compared to the plug-in hybrid\u2019s $1,252 in depreciation.<\/p>\n<p>The publication pointed out that most EVs have a better residual value than ICE vehicles after one year. However, the picture shifts after five years, with electric models depreciating almost as fast as gas models.
