Buying an EV, plug-in hybrid<\/a> or even a conventional hybrid can save you thousands on gas over its lifetime, but there are other costs involved in owning a car that can either keep them cheap, or make them comparably expensive to normal gas cars. MarketWatch Guides<\/a> recently ranked the least expensive EVs to own over a five-year period, and there are several great options on the list.<\/p>\n

The Nissan Leaf<\/a> was the least expensive EV\/electrified vehicle to run after five years, averaging $18,509 in ownership costs.<\/p>\n

  3. Kia Niro EV<\/a>: $21,845<\/li>\n
  4. Honda CR-V Hybrid<\/a>: $22,165<\/li>\n
  5. Honda Accord<\/a> PHEV: $23,708<\/li>\n
  6. Toyota RAV4 Prime<\/a>: $25,831<\/li>\n
  7. Ford Escape PHEV<\/a>: $27,811<\/li>\n
  8. Mini Cooper<\/a> Electric Hardtop<\/a>: $28,266<\/li>\n
  9. Ford Mustang Mach-E<\/a>: $28,505<\/li>\n
  10. Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid<\/a>: $33,836<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    MarketWatch didn\u2019t include depreciation<\/a> to calculate these costs, leaning on gas\/charging costs<\/a>, insurance<\/a>, and finance costs to come up with its numbers. Adding in depreciation could result in significant changes to some of the cars on this list.\u00a0<\/p>\n

    And while these are the cheapest, MarketWatch also looked at the other end of the spectrum<\/a>. The most expensive EV to run was the Porsche Taycan<\/a>, which cost $53,065 over five years, almost three times the cost<\/a> of the Nissan Leaf. It was followed closely by the Audi<\/a> E-Tron GT, at $48,886, and the BMW iX<\/a>, at $45,076.\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
