Around the same time, Northvolt announced a German factory as part of a partnership with the Volkswagen Group. It also announced a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greencarreports.com\/news\/1128918_sweden-s-northvolt-will-make-2-3b-of-electric-car-batteries-for-bmw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">joint-venture battery plant with Volvo<\/a> in 2022 that&#8217;s expected to make cells for an electric Volvo XC60 SUV, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greencarreports.com\/news\/1140967_biden-policy-led-northvolt-to-canada-for-5-2b-ev-battery-plant\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a Canadian plant<\/a> in 2023.<\/p>\n<p>BMW is shifting to <strong>cylindrical battery cells<\/strong> with its next-generation <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greencarreports.com\/news\/1143434_bmw-neue-klasse-evs-lean-into-ai-for-texture-inspiration\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Neue Klasse (German for &#8220;new class&#8221;)<\/a> EVs, claiming boosts to energy density and charging performance.
