Volvo is also on it, but it is owned by China\u2019s Geely.<\/p>\n<p>There has been some public pushback against the announcement in China, but the government reiterated that it only applies to Tesla Model Y vehicles that the automaker built in China.<\/p>\n<p>Tesla\u2019s Gigafactory in Shanghai is now the automaker\u2019s highest-producing plant in the world.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-electrek-s-take\">Electrek\u2019s Take<\/h2>\n<p>This could open up Tesla to some large-scale government sales in China, but I think it also shows that Tesla is increasingly cozying up to the Chinese government, especially in the last few months.<\/p>\n<p>China is a critical market for electric vehicles and therefore, for Tesla.<\/p>\n<p>It is the largest auto market in the world, and it is adopting electric vehicles at a higher rate than any other large auto market, including the US.<\/p>\n<div class=\"ad-disclaimer-container\" readability=\"6.3518518518519\">\n<p class=\"disclaimer-affiliate\"><em>FTC: We use income earning auto affiliate links.<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/electrek.co\/about\/#affiliate\">More.<\/a><\/p>\n<p><!-- post ad --><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Tesla vehicles have become approved as government vehicles in China \u2013 a first for a foreign-owned automaker.
