Ahead of its official debut, <a href=\"https:\/\/electrek.co\/guides\/ferrari\/\">Ferrari\u2019s<\/a> first EV is already out for testing.<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"more-371999\"\/><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-ferrari-s-first-ev-is-out-for-testing\">Ferrari\u2019s first EV is out for testing<\/h2>\n<p>Although Ferrari has yet to reveal its first electric car, the firm promises it will be \u201ca lot of fun\u201d to drive, as buyers expect from them. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cPeople buy a Ferrari because when they buy a Ferrari, they have a lot of fun,\u201d CEO Benedetto Vigna boasted. Vigna added they don\u2019t buy a Ferrari for a single reason, \u201cIt\u2019s a combination of things.\u201d Ferrari\u2019s boss promises its first EV will be made \u201cthe right way.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ahead of its debut, Ferrari\u2019s first EV is on the road for testing. According to Vigna, Ferrari\u2019s test drivers have driven prototypes \u201cseveral thousand kilometers\u201d already.<\/p>\n<p>Ferrari\u2019s test drivers are the first to drive the electric car. Vigna said the reports were \u201ca surprise\u201d and wouldn\u2019t confirm (or deny) the price tag.<\/p>\n<p>Instead, Ferrari\u2019s boss said, \u201cWe define the price of a car\u201d a month before launching it. The plant is powered entirely by renewable energy sources. Vigna claims the e-building will \u201clight up Ferrari\u2019s future.<\/p>\n<p>The EV will be made on a new production line, expected to come online in January 2025. By 2026, the brand aims for 60% of sales to be electrified (EV or PHEV).<\/p>\n<p>The electric Ferrari is expected to make its first appearance next year ahead of sales in 2026. Meanwhile, ultra-luxury rival <a href=\"https:\/\/electrek.co\/2023\/08\/18\/lamborghini-unveils-first-electric-car-lanzador-ev\/\">Lamborghini revealed its first EV<\/a> last summer, the Lanzador. The electric \u201cSuper SUV\u201d is due out in 2028.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-electrek-s-take\">Electrek\u2019s Take<\/h2>\n<p>Ferrari is known for its performance, luxurious interiors, and Italian design, but will it have the same impact in the EV era?<\/p>\n<p>Vigna warned EU automakers that surging Chinese rivals should be a \u201ccall to action.\u201d Meanwhile, China\u2019s top EV makers are already expanding into Ferrari\u2019s market.<\/p>\n<p>China\u2019s largest EV maker, BYD, <a href=\"https:\/\/electrek.co\/2024\/02\/26\/byd-launches-233k-yangwang-u9-ev-supercar-ferrari\/\">launched its first electric supercar<\/a>, the Yangwang U9, earlier this year.<\/p>\n<p>With four electric motors packing nearly 1,300 hp (960 kW), the U9 can hit 0 to 62 mph (0 to 100 km\/h) in 2.36 seconds. That\u2019s faster than Ferrari\u2019s SF90 Stradale, with a 0 to 62 mph time in 2.5 seconds.<\/p>\n<p>Starting at $233,400 (1,680,000 yuan), BYD electric supercar is also half the price of the SF90 (+$525,000).<\/p>\n<p>Will Ferrari\u2019s first EV have the same impact with new competition?
