The announcement comes after <a href=\"https:\/\/electrek.co\/guides\/ford\/\">Ford<\/a> delayed the launch of its first three-row electric SUV at the facility.<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"more-372176\"\/><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-ford-to-build-super-duty-trucks-in-ontario-amid-ev-delay\">Ford to build Super Duty trucks in Ontario amid EV delay<\/h2>\n<p>Ford will begin building Super Duty trucks at its Oakville Assembly plant in Ontario, Canada, starting in 2026.<\/p>\n<p>The company is boosting production with up to 100,000 units spread across three plans. Ford will now build the pickups in Kentucky, Ohio, and Ontario. The delay will give time \u201cfor the consumer market for three-row EVs to develop further.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>According to Ford, <a href=\"https:\/\/media.ford.com\/content\/fordmedia\/fna\/us\/en\/news\/2024\/07\/18\/ford-expands-north-american-f-series-production.html\">boosting Super Duty production<\/a> in Ontario will add around 1,800 more. Ford claims this is 400 more than what would have been needed to build the three-row electric SUV. GM\u2019s CEO Mary Barra said during an event this week that the automaker would <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2024-07-15\/gm-s-barra-says-automaker-won-t-sell-a-million-evs-next-year\">not hit its goal<\/a> of building 1 million EVs next year.<\/p>\n<p>The move is surprising, given Farley\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/electrek.co\/2024\/07\/01\/ford-ceo-calls-out-americas-love-monster-vehicles\/\">recent comments<\/a>. Farley said the US is \u201cjust in love with these monster vehicles\u201d earlier this month, referring to larger trucks and SUVs.<\/p>\n<p>Although he agreed, \u201cI love them too,\u201d Farley acknowledged a \u201cradical change\u201d is needed. Ford is shifting gears to focus on smaller, more profitable EVs.<\/p>\n<p>The company has been <a href=\"https:\/\/electrek.co\/2024\/06\/12\/ford-poaches-ex-tesla-rivian-apple-talent-build-affordable-evs\/\">poaching talent<\/a> from Tesla, Rivian, Lucid, and Apple to develop a new low-cost EV platform.<\/p>\n<p>Ford is expected to launch its first EV on the platform in 2027.
