{"id":74757,"date":"2024-07-24T09:03:24","date_gmt":"2024-07-24T13:03:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/autosector.com\/?p=74757"},"modified":"2024-07-24T09:03:24","modified_gmt":"2024-07-24T13:03:24","slug":"1143898_modern-silvia-could-happen-says-senior-nissan-exec","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/autosector.com\/?p=74757","title":{"rendered":"Modern Silvia could happen, says senior Nissan exec"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li><strong>Nissan might bring back the Silvia globally<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>The Silvia would potentially serve as an entry-level sports car<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Nissan has shown some electric sports car concepts in recent years<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>With the GT-R soon to be <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motorauthority.com\/news\/1143525_2024-nissan-gt-r-r35-dead\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">out of production<\/a> and a successor nowhere in sight, Nissan&#8217;s sports car lineup will soon be down to just the Z.<\/p>\n<p>However, the Z is on the wrong side of regulations in Europe and several countries outside the region, and with the GT-R on its way out Nissan will soon be left with very little to attract performance fans in those markets.<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"static-marker-video-player-primis\"\/><\/p>\n<p>A solution may be a modern Silvia, Nissan&#8217;s traditional entry-level sports car which was last sold in the U.S. in the 1990s as <strong>the 240SX<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.topgear.com\/car-news\/interview\/nissans-global-product-boss-says-a-new-silvia-could-be-horizon\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Top Gear<\/a> in an interview published on Monday, Nissan&#8217;s head of global product strategy, Ivan Espinosa, said <strong>a modern Silvia<\/strong> was possible, assuming there is a business case.<\/p>\n<div class=\"image_wrapper first_wrapper\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" name=\"tccimg_100806622_m\" title=\"Nissan Silvia EV concept\" src=\"data:image\/png;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAD\/ACwAAAAAAQABAAACADs=\" alt=\"Nissan Silvia EV concept\" width=\"640\" height=\"388\" class=\"first_image lazy\" data-width=\"1024\" data-height=\"622\" data-url=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/lrg\/nissan-silvia-ev-concept_100806622_l.jpg\" data-src-h=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/hug\/nissan-silvia-ev-concept_100806622_h.jpg\" data-src=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/lrg\/nissan-silvia-ev-concept_100806622_l.jpg\" data-src-l=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/lrg\/nissan-silvia-ev-concept_100806622_l.jpg\" data-src-m=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/med\/nissan-silvia-ev-concept_100806622_m.jpg\" data-src-s=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/sml\/nissan-silvia-ev-concept_100806622_s.jpg\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Nissan Silvia EV concept<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Espinosa said the car would have be to be <strong>sold globally<\/strong> to make it work, and that are a lot of Silvia fans around, even though the nameplate has been out of production since 2002.<\/p>\n<p>In a previous interview with Top Gear published last year, Espinosa said Nissan was considering an entry-level performance model that he wants to be a <strong>proper sports car<\/strong> and not just a hot hatch.<\/p>\n<p>Rumors of the Silvia&#8217;s return date back to almost when the last Silvia bowed out of production. A Nissan designer from Europe in 2021 presented some design sketches for a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motorauthority.com\/news\/1133581_nissan-design-boss-reimagines-silvia-for-the-electric-era\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">vision of a <strong>modern Silvia<\/strong><\/a> powered by batteries.<\/p>\n<p>It isn&#8217;t clear whether a modern Silvia would be powered by batteries, or stick with a gas engine, though Nissan has rolled out some <strong>electric sports car concepts<\/strong> in the recent past. One of these was the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motorauthority.com\/news\/1134288_pickup-truck-and-roadster-teased-as-part-of-nissan-s-ev-future\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Max-Out roadster<\/a>.
