Elon Musk reiterates that the \u2018forever coming next\u2019 next-gen Tesla Roadster will go into production in 2025.<\/p>\n

The prototype for the next-generation Tesla Roadster was first unveiled in 2017, and it was supposed to come into production in 2020, but it has been delayed every year since then.<\/p>\n

It has become a sort of running joke, and there are doubts that it will ever come to market despite Tesla\u2019s promise of\u00a0dozens of free new Roadsters to Tesla owners<\/a>\u00a0who participated in its referral program years ago.<\/p>\n

But earlier this year, CEO Elon Musk made\u00a0some rare new comments about the next-gen Tesla Roadster<\/a>, reviving hope that the vehicle will finally happen.<\/p>\n

Musk said that Tesla will unveil a much-needed updated version of the next-gen Roadster since the design of the yet-to-be-revealed vehicle is already 7 years old, at the end of this year, and he said that the vehicle would come to market in 2025.<\/p>\n

At Tesla\u2019s Q2 2024 financial report, Musk was again asked about the Tesla Roadster and the CEO shared this update about the status of the vehicle program:<\/p>\n

\n

\u201cWith respect to Roadster, we\u2019ve completed most of the engineering. And I think there\u2019s still some upgrades we want to make to it, but we expect to be in production with Roadster next year. It will be something special.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

The vehicle\u2019s production is seemingly still planned for next year, but there\u2019s no word on when we will see the updated version.<\/p>\n

In<\/span>dependently, Musk also confirmed the delay in Tesla\u2019s Robotaxi event to October and\u00a0added that the delay will enable Tesla to \u201cshow other things.\u201d<\/p>\n
