Note that not every company named Recaro is bankrupt; it&#8217;s just Recaro Automotive Seating, which makes car seats. Recaro Holding, which designs and manufactures airplane seats and gaming chairs, is not involved in the bankruptcy process.<\/p>\n<p>Recaro&#8217;s car seat-making division has bounced from owner to owner over the past few years. It was purchased by Johnson Controls in 2011, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thedrive.com\/news\/tech\/recaro-files-for-bankruptcy-four-years-after-being-sold-to-private-equity\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:1;\">according to<\/a> <em>The Drive<\/em>, and sold to a Detroit-based private investment firm called Raven Acquisitions in January 2020. The statement <a href=\"https:\/\/www.recaro-automotive.com\/us\/recaro\/press-media\/press-releases\/adient-sells-its-recaro-automotive-seating-unit\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:2;\">released<\/a> to announce the sale claimed that Recaro Automotive generated about $150 million in revenues during the 2019 fiscal year.<\/p>\n<p>What this means for Recaro&#8217;s future isn&#8217;t clear. There&#8217;s no word on whether it will be sold, closed, or parted out. It&#8217;s also too early to tell what will happen to its 215 German employees. German magazine <em>Auto Bild<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autobild.de\/artikel\/recaro-zulieferer-geht-insolvent-meldung-26320111.html\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:3;\">notes<\/a> these men and women have &#8220;contributed to the economic stabilization of the company by waiving and postponing wages&#8221; for years, which suggests the firm&#8217;s financial problems are deeply rooted.<\/p>\n<p>Alarmingly, most of these workers reportedly weren&#8217;t aware that their employer had filed for bankruptcy until the last minute, so they weren&#8217;t granted the luxury of planning their exit \u2014 and figuring out what&#8217;s next \u2014 ahead of time. IG Metall, the trade union that represents Recaro workers, has asked members of the management team and the court in charge of the company&#8217;s bankruptcy proceedings for transparency.<\/p>\n<p>On a secondary level, the bankruptcy filing could affect what your next sports car looks like inside. Although founded as a coachbuilder in 1906, Recaro has specialized in sport seats since the 1960s. It has supplied seats for a long list of models including numerous new and old <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/bmw\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:4;\">BMW<\/a> and <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/porsche\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:5;\">Porsche<\/a> models, the <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/alfa+romeo\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:6;\">Alfa Romeo<\/a> Milano Verde, the <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/cadillac\/ats_v\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:7;\">Cadillac ATS-V<\/a>, the <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/ford\/fiesta\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:8;\">Ford Fiesta<\/a> ST, the <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/mazda\/mx_5+miata\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:9;\">Mazda MX-5 Miata<\/a>, and the <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/audi\/r8\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:10;\">Audi R8<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Recaro, a German brand best known for supplying seats to sports car manufacturers and racing teams, has filed for bankruptcy.
