It inaugurated the fantastic 3.0-liter Nettuno V6 that has since spread <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/2023\/02\/14\/2024-maserati-granturismo-first-drive-review\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:2;\">to other members of the range<\/a>, it ushered in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/2022\/04\/05\/2023-maserati-grecale-first-drive-review\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:3;\">a new design language<\/a>, and it brought the Italian brand back to racing after a long hiatus. Now, it&#8217;s about to spawn a new super-sports car designed to bridge the gap between street cars and race cars.<\/p>\n<p>Details remain few and far between; we don&#8217;t even know what the model is called yet. Maserati tells us it developed the MC20-derived car for drivers &#8220;who do not wish to sacrifice extraordinary performance on the road.&#8221; We&#8217;re also told it features innovative technological solutions and impressive aerodynamic performance, though we&#8217;ll need to wait a couple of weeks to see precisely what the company has cooked up.<\/p>\n<p>However, there&#8217;s a potentially big hint in Maserati&#8217;s press release: &#8220;From the outset of [the <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/maserati\/mc20\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:4;\">MC20<\/a>&#8216;s] technical development, a racing evolution was envisaged that would come to life in two directions, with the track version and its road counterpart developed in close synergy.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;ve already seen a track-bound MC20 \u2014 it&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/2023\/06\/30\/maserati-gt2-reveal-mc20-race-car\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:5;\">the GT2<\/a> that was unveiled in June 2023 and that started racing shortly after. Could the dark teaser image preview a street-legal variant of the GT2? It&#8217;s not terribly far-fetched, though keep in mind that this is pure speculation. The model seemingly features a redesigned front bumper with a <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/tag\/carbon+fiber\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:6;\">carbon fiber<\/a> splitter as well as GT2-like vents over the front wheel arches.<\/p>\n<p>Maserati will unveil the new <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/category\/supercars\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:7;\">supercar<\/a> in <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/mercury\/monterey\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:8;\">Monterey<\/a>, California, on August 16 at precisely 9:12 a.m. local time (that&#8217;s 12:12 p.m. in New York). Enthusiasts who attend the unveiling will also get to check out <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/2024\/06\/18\/maserati-mc20-icona-and-leggenda-special-editions-revealed\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:9;\">the MC12-inspired MC20 Icona<\/a>, which will make its North American debut at the event, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/2023\/08\/18\/maserati-mcxtrema-revealed-at-the-quail\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:10;\">the track-only MCXtrema<\/a>.
