BYD revealed the new 2025 <a href=\"https:\/\/electrek.co\/guides\/byd-seal\/\">Seal EV<\/a> Friday as it looks to continue its dominant run in the global electric vehicle market.<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"more-374203\"\/><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-byd-unveils-new-2025-seal-ev\">BYD unveils new 2025 Seal EV<\/h2>\n<p>After launching the lower-priced <a href=\"https:\/\/electrek.co\/2024\/03\/25\/byd-undercuts-tesla-model-3-with-its-new-electric-sedan\/\">Seal EV Honor Edition<\/a>, starting at $25,000 (179,800 yuan), in March, BYD unveiled the new 2025 model year on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>The Seal is BYD\u2019s answer to the <a href=\"https:\/\/electrek.co\/guides\/tesla-model-3\/\">Tesla Model 3<\/a> as a sleek, fully electric, everyday sedan. BYD calls the EV sedan a \u201ctrue masterpiece,\u201d boasting its signature X-shaped front-end design.<\/p>\n<p>BYD officially unveiled the first images of the 2025 Seal EV in a new \u201cSky Purple\u201d color, claiming \u201cfashionable and elegant\u201d is coming.<\/p>\n<p>One of the most noticeable changes is the added LiDAR on the roof. The new sensor is from the BYD-backed Robosense, a leading LiDAR provider. That\u2019s with the larger (80.64 kWh) battery. Check back for the full details.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-electrek-s-take\">Electrek\u2019s Take<\/h2>\n<p>BYD <a href=\"https:\/\/electrek.co\/2024\/08\/01\/byd-sold-record-342k-nevs-july-but-ev-sales-slipped\/\">sold a record<\/a> +342,000 new energy vehicles (including PHEVs) last month despite EV sales slipping for the second straight month.<\/p>\n<p>The new BYD Seal EV could boost sales with added ADAS features, as buyers in China are increasingly looking for advanced features.<\/p>\n<p>After signing a landmark deal with Uber to <a href=\"https:\/\/electrek.co\/2024\/07\/31\/byd-unleash-100000-evs-globally-new-partner-uber\/\">deploy 100,000 EVs<\/a> across its global network, BYD said it would collaborate with the rideshare giant on autonomous driving tech. BYD\u2019s chairman and president, Wang Chuanfu, said, \u201cIntegrated Vehicle Intelligence is set to steer the future direction of vehicular intelligence and to accelerate the transformation of the automotive industry.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>BYD claimed it \u201chas been leading in China for L2-Level intelligent driving deployment\u201d and was the \u201cfirst automotive brand to receive the L3-level test license.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The company said it aims to break down the barrier to intelligent driving globally by offering more advanced tech at a lower cost. BYD is <a href=\"https:\/\/electrek.co\/2024\/02\/06\/byd-launching-smart-driving-tech\/\">investing $14 billion<\/a> (RMB 100 billion) in intelligent driving to secure its position for the future.
