For drivers who were not using Autopilot technology, we recorded one crash for every 1.45 million miles driven. By comparison, the most recent data available from\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/crashstats.nhtsa.dot.gov\/Api\/Public\/ViewPublication\/813526\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">NHTSA<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.fhwa.dot.gov\/policyinformation\/travel_monitoring\/22dectvt\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">FHWA<\/a>\u00a0(from 2022) shows that in the United States there was an automobile crash approximately every 670,000 miles.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>This is a decrease in miles between crashes quarter-over-quarter, but it is better to look at it year-over-year due to the fact accidents are more frequent depending on the season.<\/p>\n<p>Year-over-year, Tesla is showing a slight improvement: <\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1242\" height=\"1364\" src=\"https:\/\/electrek.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2024\/08\/Screenshot-2024-08-07-at-10.11.17\u202fAM.jpg?quality=82&amp;strip=all&amp;w=932\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-374727\" srcset=\"https:\/\/electrek.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2024\/08\/Screenshot-2024-08-07-at-10.11.17\u202fAM.jpg 1242w, https:\/\/electrek.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2024\/08\/Screenshot-2024-08-07-at-10.11.17\u202fAM.jpg?resize=137,150 137w, https:\/\/electrek.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2024\/08\/Screenshot-2024-08-07-at-10.11.17\u202fAM.jpg?resize=273,300 273w, https:\/\/electrek.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2024\/08\/Screenshot-2024-08-07-at-10.11.17\u202fAM.jpg?resize=768,843 768w, https:\/\/electrek.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2024\/08\/Screenshot-2024-08-07-at-10.11.17\u202fAM.jpg?resize=932,1024 932w, https:\/\/electrek.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2024\/08\/Screenshot-2024-08-07-at-10.11.17\u202fAM.jpg?resize=319,350 319w, https:\/\/electrek.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2024\/08\/Screenshot-2024-08-07-at-10.11.17\u202fAM.jpg?resize=140,154 140w, https:\/\/electrek.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2024\/08\/Screenshot-2024-08-07-at-10.11.17\u202fAM.jpg?resize=911,1000 911w, https:\/\/electrek.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2024\/08\/Screenshot-2024-08-07-at-10.11.17\u202fAM.jpg?resize=150,165 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1242px) 100vw, 1242px\"\/><\/figure>\n<p>This data doesn\u2019t include Full Self-Driving (FSD), although that has gotten murky lately since Tesla now uses the same software stacks with limited functionalities for Autopilot.<\/p>\n<p>Due to the limitation of the data, it is only really worth comparing it against itself over time to see improvements.<\/p>\n<p>When it comes to FSD, Tesla has always refused to release miles between disengagement data.
