Positioned at its introduction as \u201cthe new F1,\u201d the McLaren P1 was a tour de force of the most advanced automotive technology. It featured a carbon monocoque chassis, scarcely tipping the scales at only 200 pounds, and external bodywork and major cabin structures created from a stunning, lightweight assemblage of carbon fiber panels.<\/p>\n

The mid-mounted 3.8-liter twin-turbo V-8 produced 717 horsepower at 7,300 rpm and 531 pound-feet of torque at 4,000 rpm. An electric motor, itself producing 176 horsepower, served not to improve fuel economy but rather to \u201ctorque fill,\u201d supplementing the normal gaps where the conventional engine would fail to produce peak performance. As a result, the P1 was always ready to provide maximum power to the driver\u2014a total output of 893 horsepower and 664 pound-feet of torque. Exceptional aerodynamic efficiency, achieved via adjustable front and rear spoilers to produce as much as 1,300 pounds of downforce, ensured all that power was transmitted to the road. McLaren reported a top speed of 217 mph, with the sprint from 0\u201360 mph taking only 2.7 seconds.<\/p>\n

Only 375 P1s were produced, and the roster of customer slots was quickly filled by some of the world\u2019s foremost enthusiasts. They were treated to an unparalleled choice of options and features from McLaren\u2019s engineers and artisans, ensuring each P1 would be individually tailored\u2014nonetheless, some of these cars were made truly special, more than others, through the individual whims of their fortunate buyers.<\/p>\n

The spectacular P1 presented for sale here<\/a> is a truly incomparable example not only for being the earliest P1 offered to the public by chassis number, but for representing the physical actualization of McLaren\u2019s Special Operations program and displaying the incredible lengths the firm will undertake for its customers. With chassis 001 retained by McLaren for their personal collection, this example, chassis 002, was sold new in May 2014 via McLaren Greenwich of Connecticut and furnished with over $109,000 in MSO equipment on top of its already eye-watering $1,150,000 suggested retail price. These special elements include swaths of green-tinted exposed carbon fiber on the console, dash, instrument cluster, door inserts, and engine cover in addition to green contrasting stitching on the upholstery and steering wheel.<\/p>\n

A little more than a year after taking delivery, the original owner learned McLaren would be offering a select run of P1s with exposed carbon fiber coachwork and made the incredible decision to return chassis 002 to the McLaren factory for fitment of a fully exposed, green-tinted carbon fiber body. Just a handful of P1s were built with an exposed carbon fiber body, and this car is believed to be the only factory-upgraded example. Upon its completion, so impressed were they with the truly special creation they had tailored, the entire MSO team of artisans added their signatures to the car\u2019s engine bay.<\/p>\n

After the three-month upgrading process, chassis 002 was returned to its original owner who covered fewer than 600 total miles before parting with the car in 2017. Chassis 002 was then imported to Canada where it has been fastidiously maintained by McLaren retailers. These no-expense-spared measures include a new charger in October 2021 ($33,416), an Ultimate Series service with complete vehicle health inspection in August 2022 ($22,096), and an extensive major service, including a new HDA with clutch assembly, in August 2023 ($135,320). Most recently, in April 2024, McLaren Toronto performed a general inspection and battery health check which found its battery to be in good health. Accompanying service invoices are available for review. At the time of cataloguing, it had been driven fewer than 5,890 miles.<\/p>\n

As the first McLaren P1 offered to the public, chassis 002 was born with inherent collectability. When taken in conjunction with its jewel-like specification, however, it becomes an industry icon\u2014one destined to be appreciated for years to come, and a must-have for any serious supercar collector.<\/p>\n
