Production volume in particular has increased substantially since 2008, when the modern EV era was just getting started with the launch of the <strong>Tesla Roadster<\/strong>, offering automakers economies of scale that didn&#8217;t exist at that time.<\/p>\n<p>EV battery prices have fallen significantly over the past few years, albeit with some interruptions related to the <strong>coronavirus pandemic<\/strong> and attendant supply-chain issues. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greencarreports.com\/news\/1126308_electric-car-battery-prices-dropped-13-in-2019-will-reach-100-kwh-in-2023\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Prices dropped 13% in 2019<\/a>, increased in 2022, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greencarreports.com\/news\/1141569_ev-battery-prices-are-dropping-again\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">began falling again<\/a> after that. In its annual shareholder meeting in June of this year, CEO Elon Musk said Tesla was still trying to cut 4680 cell cost, claiming the automaker&#8217;s own cells cost more than those <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greencarreports.com\/news\/1143529_musk-ev-batteries-from-suppliers-costs-less-vs-tesla\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">bought from suppliers<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Tesla aside, battery costs are expected to continue falling. Goldman Sachs published analysis earlier this year predicting cost decreases equivalent to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greencarreports.com\/news\/1142497_2023-2025-ev-battery-prices-will-boost-sales\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">40% drop between 2023 and 2025<\/a>.
