Following a teardown and analysis of the Tesla Cybertruck, Hyundai wants to make a comeback in the US pickup truck market.<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"more-375710\"\/><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-hyundai-tears-down-the-tesla-cybertruck-for-analysis\">Hyundai tears down the Tesla Cybertruck for analysis<\/h2>\n<p>Hyundai Motor Company, including Kia and Genesis, had a record-setting year in the US in 2023. After topping Jeep owner Stellantis, Honda, and Nissan in sales last year, Hyundai became America\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.coxautoinc.com\/market-insights\/cox-automotive-analysis-hyundai-motors-q4-2023-u-s-market-performance\/\">fourth-largest automaker<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Now that the ball is in the South Korean automaker\u2019s court, Hyundai doesn\u2019t plan on letting up. Hyundai is missing out on one of the largest segments in the US auto market: pickup trucks.<\/p>\n<p><span>According to <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.coxautoinc.com\/news\/cox-automotive-forecast-june-2024-u-s-auto-sales-forecast\/\">Cox Automotive<\/a><\/em>, full-size pickup trucks accounted for 13.7% of new vehicle sales in June, topping midsize (5.4%) and compact cars (7.6%)<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>A new exclusive report from Korea\u2019s <em>Naver<\/em> claims Hyundai\u2019s Namyang Research Center began tearing down the Tesla Cybertruck (<a href=\"https:\/\/electrek.co\/2024\/06\/08\/tesla-cybertruck-review-incredible-tech-packaged-weirdest-way\/\">see our review<\/a>) for analysis last month. However, Kia has yet to announce if it will land in the US.<\/p>\n<p>Kia <a href=\"https:\/\/press.kia.com\/eu\/en\/home\/media-resouces\/press-releases\/2022\/Kia-CEO-Investor-Day.html\">announced plans<\/a> in 2022 to launch two electric pickups: one dedicated model and another for strategic emerging markets.<\/p>\n<p>Following the Tesla Cybertruck teardown, will we see an electric Hyundai or Kia pickup hit the US?
