Volkswagen\u2019s first electric ID GTI \u201cwill be a real go kart\u201d to drive with elements from the legends.<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"more-376268\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Volkswagen unveiled the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.volkswagen-newsroom.com\/en\/the-new-id-gti-concept-world-premiere-17587\">ID GTI Concept<\/a> last September, a preview of its first electric GTI model. \u201c100% electric, 100% GTI,\u201d VW said the concept is a reinterpretation of the legendary DNA.<\/p>\n<p>The ID GTI is based on <a href=\"https:\/\/electrek.co\/2023\/03\/15\/vw-reveals-id-2all-affordable-ev-concept-with-279-mile-range\/\">Volkswagen\u2019s ID.2all<\/a> revealed in March 2023, its take on an entry-level EV. VW CEO Thomas Shafer confirmed the GTI and Golf names were part of its electric future.<\/p>\n<p>Volkswagen\u2019s tech development chief, Kai Grunitz, reiterated the comments at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.volkswagen.de\/de\/marke-und-erlebnis\/gti-fanfest\/gti-fanfest-en.html\">GTI Fanfest<\/a> last month. Speaking with <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.autocar.co.uk\/car-news\/new-cars\/vw%E2%80%99s-first-electric-gti-focus-go-kart-fun-and-drivability\">AutoCar<\/a><\/em>, Grunitz suggested the electric model won\u2019t be the most powerful, but it will be the most fun to drive.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGTI is alive and we\u2019ll keep it alive in the future,\u201d he said. He\u2019s already driven a prototype, claiming, \u201cIt\u2019s really amazing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>You can see the concept pulls design features from VW\u2019s classic GTI models. A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.handelsblatt.com\/unternehmen\/industrie\/volkswagen-vw-chef-blume-verschiebt-e-zukunftsauto-trinity-auf-2032-01\/100054911.html\">recent report <\/a>from Germany\u2019s <em>Handelsblatt<\/em> claimed VW is pushing back the launch of its Tesla-rivaling Trinity EV until 2032. In the meantime, it may <a href=\"https:\/\/electrek.co\/2024\/08\/13\/vw-electric-golf-sooner-than-expected-rivians-help\/\">pull forward the electric Golf<\/a> launch. With its new partner, Rivian\u2019s help, Volkswagen\u2019s electric Golf could launch in 2029 or sooner.<\/p>\n<p>Ahead of its official debut, Volkswagen\u2019s ID.2 was <a href=\"https:\/\/electrek.co\/2024\/08\/14\/volkswagens-27000-id-2-officially-spotted-first-time\/\">spotted for the first time<\/a> this week testing at the Nurburgring track.
