{"id":75869,"date":"2024-08-19T09:03:42","date_gmt":"2024-08-19T13:03:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/autosector.com\/?p=75869"},"modified":"2024-08-19T09:03:42","modified_gmt":"2024-08-19T13:03:42","slug":"1144175_electric-acura-nsx-type-performance-car-confirmed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/autosector.com\/?p=75869","title":{"rendered":"Electric Acura NSX-type performance car confirmed"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li><strong>An electric performance car will join the future Acura lineup<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>The car will be based on Honda&#8217;s 0 (Zero) EV platform<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Acura will build the car at its Ohio production facility<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The next Acura NSX, or a car like it, will be powered by batteries, Shinji Aoyama, global executive vice president for Acura parent Honda, said at this month&#8217;s 2024 Monterey Car Week, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motor1.com\/news\/730443\/electric-acura-nsx-confirmed\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Motor1<\/a> reported.<\/p>\n<p>Aoyama described the car as an \u201cNSX-type of vehicle\u201d and said it <strong>may not necessary be called an NSX<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"static-marker-video-player-primis\"\/><\/p>\n<p>He also confirmed it would ride on a new Honda-developed dedicated EV platform that debuts next year in an Acura SUV and also underpin the <strong>upcoming <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motorauthority.com\/news\/1141967_honda-launches-0-ev-series-for-global-markets-at-2024-ces\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">0 (Zero) Series of EVs<\/a> from Honda<\/strong>. The Acura SUV was previewed in Monterey by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motorauthority.com\/news\/1144143_acura-concept-previews-us-built-electric-suv-due-in-2025\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Performance EV concept<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Aoyama said the electric performance car won&#8217;t use solid-state batteries but will benefit from the thin and lightweight development approach Honda is taking for its dedicated EV platform, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thedrive.com\/news\/an-acura-nsx-type-performance-ev-is-coming-in-2028\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Drive<\/a> reported.<\/p>\n<div class=\"image_wrapper first_wrapper\" readability=\"7\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" name=\"tccimg_100894725_m\" title=\"Acura Electric Vision Design concept\" src=\"data:image\/png;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAD\/ACwAAAAAAQABAAACADs=\" alt=\"Acura Electric Vision Design concept\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" class=\"first_image lazy\" data-width=\"1024\" data-height=\"576\" data-url=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/lrg\/acura-electric-vision-design-concept_100894725_l.jpg\" data-src-h=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/hug\/acura-electric-vision-design-concept_100894725_h.jpg\" data-src=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/lrg\/acura-electric-vision-design-concept_100894725_l.jpg\" data-src-l=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/lrg\/acura-electric-vision-design-concept_100894725_l.jpg\" data-src-m=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/med\/acura-electric-vision-design-concept_100894725_m.jpg\" data-src-s=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/sml\/acura-electric-vision-design-concept_100894725_s.jpg\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Acura Electric Vision Design concept<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Acura and Honda EVs based on the platform will be <strong>built at Honda&#8217;s sprawling production facility located just outside Marysville, Ohio<\/strong>, which is also home to the Acura Performance Manufacturing Center that built the last NSX. It&#8217;s likely the new electric performance car confirmed by Aoyama will also be built at the site.<\/p>\n<p>The Ohio site is being retooled to manufacture EVs and their components, including batteries, and is now referred to internally as the Honda EV Hub.<\/p>\n<p>The news of an electric performance car in the vein of the NSX isn&#8217;t a huge surprise as Acura last year <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.motorauthority.com\/news\/1140535_acura-s-electric-vision-design-concept-may-preview-next-nsx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">teased a concept<\/a> for an EV<\/strong> that looked like a future evolution of the NSX. Called the Acura Electric Vision Design, the concept was developed to inspire Acura&#8217;s design staff working on the brand&#8217;s future electric lineup.<\/p>\n<p>Acura boss Jon Ikeda also previously confirmed plans for a <strong>third-generation NSX<\/strong> as early as 2021, when Acura rolled out the 2022 NSX Type S to mark the end of the second-generation car&#8217;s run.
