As the first Chinese automaker to complete large-scale testing at Germany\u2019s famous Nurburgring track, BYD said, \u201cIt\u2019s time for China\u2019s supercars to get serious.\u201d BYD\u2019s 1,200 hp Yangwang U9 electric supercar is expected to challenge Ferrari, Porsche, Lamborghini, and other high-end car makers as it expands into new segments.<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"more-376489\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Launched in January 2023, Yangwang is BYD\u2019s new luxury brand. The U9 was unveiled alongside the Yangwang U8, an off-road SUV and Mercedes G-Class competitor.<\/p>\n<p>After teasing the electric supercar\u2019s sleek design, dance moves, and other fun features, BYD <a href=\"https:\/\/electrek.co\/2024\/02\/26\/byd-launches-233k-yangwang-u9-ev-supercar-ferrari\/\">launched the Yangwang U9<\/a> in February. Starting at around $233,000 (1,680,000 yuan), the U9 is priced at a hefty premium compared to most low-cost BYD models starting at around $10,000 to $25,000.<\/p>\n<p>Yangwang recently announced that the<a href=\"https:\/\/electrek.co\/2024\/07\/29\/byds-first-electric-supercar-enters-production-ferrari-beware\/\"> first U9 models for customer delivery<\/a> rolled off the assembly line.<\/p>\n<p>The news comes after BYD wrapped up six months of testing at the Nurburgring. Known as \u201cthe world\u2019s most difficult track\u201d or \u201cThe Green Hell,\u201d the Nurburgring features tight twists, turns, and quick elevation changes to challenge vehicles.<\/p>\n<p>BYD fine-tuned the electric supercar across 70 corners and 30 track sections. The company said that Chinese car companies need to continue improving, and Yangwang will always focus on the future. And BYD\u2019s electric supercar is half the cost of the Ferrari and Lamborghini.<\/p>\n<p>The interior features \u201cthe smartest supercar cockpit,\u201d according to BYD.
