{"id":75966,"date":"2024-08-21T09:04:22","date_gmt":"2024-08-21T13:04:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/autosector.com\/?p=75966"},"modified":"2024-08-21T09:04:22","modified_gmt":"2024-08-21T13:04:22","slug":"1144202_a-bmw-race-car-based-on-the-m2-launches-in-2026","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/autosector.com\/?p=75966","title":{"rendered":"A BMW race car based on the M2 launches in 2026"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>BMW in recent years has launched entry-level race cars based on the M2 and other 2-Series Coupe models, and the automaker is currently working on a new one that it plans to have ready in time for the 2026 motorsports season.<\/p>\n<p>Teaser photos released on Tuesday point to the car being based on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motorauthority.com\/news\/1139457_2023-bmw-m2-test-drive-review\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the latest M2<\/a> which BMW introduced for the 2023 model year.<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"static-marker-video-player-primis\"\/><\/p>\n<p>There&#8217;s a chance it will be closely aligned with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motorauthority.com\/news\/1139556_2025-bmw-m2-cs-spy-shots\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">upcoming M2 CS<\/a>, prototypes for which have been spotted testing.<\/p>\n<p>The new race car is the successor to the M235i Racing, M240i Racing, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motorauthority.com\/news\/1124347_bmw-m2-cs-spawns-racing-variant\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">M2 CS Racing<\/a>, and like those earlier cars the new one will form part of BMW&#8217;s customer racing program. The earlier cars have been priced from about $100,000, making them the ideal stepping stone to cars from the higher GT4 and GT3 classes. The new car should follow a similar path.<\/p>\n<p>BMW hasn&#8217;t released any further details on the race car. The current M2 packs a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-6 rated at 453 hp, and the race car should boast a similar figure.<\/p>\n<p>BMW said the race car&#8217;s development is still at an early stage.
