While the all-electric Volvo EX90 is due to reach U.S. dealerships by the end of the year, Volvo was expected to keep <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greencarreports.com\/news\/1142527_2024-volvo-xc90-recharge-recharge-test-drive-review\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the current XC90<\/a> on sale for a while with updates\u2014and those updates are likely what the automaker will be showing in a few weeks.<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"static-marker-video-player-primis\"\/><\/p>\n<div class=\"image_wrapper first_wrapper\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" name=\"tccimg_100904925_m\" title=\"2024 Volvo XC90\" src=\"data:image\/png;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAD\/ACwAAAAAAQABAAACADs=\" alt=\"2024 Volvo XC90\" width=\"640\" height=\"468\" class=\"first_image lazy\" data-width=\"1024\" data-height=\"749\" data-url=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/lrg\/2024-volvo-xc90_100904925_l.webp\" data-src-h=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/hug\/2024-volvo-xc90_100904925_h.webp\" data-src=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/lrg\/2024-volvo-xc90_100904925_l.webp\" data-src-l=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/lrg\/2024-volvo-xc90_100904925_l.webp\" data-src-m=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/med\/2024-volvo-xc90_100904925_m.webp\" data-src-s=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/sml\/2024-volvo-xc90_100904925_s.webp\"\/><\/p>\n<p>2024 Volvo XC90<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Volvo in 2021 announced that it would <strong>sell only EVs starting in 2030<\/strong>, but Automotive News reported last month that the automaker&#8217;s U.S. dealers expect to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greencarreports.com\/news\/1143939_volvo-dealers-have-to-sell-plug-in-hybrids-or-we-will-die\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">still be selling plug-in hybrids<\/a> 48-volt mild hybrids beyond that point. In that report, one anonymous dealer said, declaring that &#8220;we will have to, or we will die.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Volvo already <strong>fits plug-in hybrids into its EV product strategy<\/strong> more comprehensively than any other full-line automaker\u2014even going so far as to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greencarreports.com\/news\/1129500_volvo-starts-masking-its-exhaust-tips-on-the-way-to-more-evs\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">mask tailpipes<\/a>. The U.S.-market plug-in hybrid with the most electric range and highest fuel efficiency\u2014<a href=\"https:\/\/www.greencarreports.com\/news\/1143546_volvo-highest-mileage-plug-in-hybrid-s60-recharge\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the S60 Recharge sedan<\/a>\u2014is being discontinued, but that&#8217;s a reflection of diminishing interest in sedans, not plug-in hybrids.<\/p>\n<div class=\"image_wrapper\"><img decoding=\"async\" name=\"tccimg_100904921_m\" title=\"2024 Volvo XC90\" src=\"data:image\/png;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAD\/ACwAAAAAAQABAAACADs=\" alt=\"2024 Volvo XC90\" width=\"640\" height=\"426\" data-width=\"1024\" data-height=\"682\" data-url=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/lrg\/2024-volvo-xc90_100904921_l.webp\" data-src-h=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/hug\/2024-volvo-xc90_100904921_h.webp\" data-src=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/lrg\/2024-volvo-xc90_100904921_l.webp\" data-src-l=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/lrg\/2024-volvo-xc90_100904921_l.webp\" data-src-m=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/med\/2024-volvo-xc90_100904921_m.webp\" data-src-s=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/sml\/2024-volvo-xc90_100904921_s.webp\" class=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n<p>2024 Volvo XC90<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>The all-electric EX90\u2014a three-row SUV with a similar footprint to the current XC90\u2014was unveiled in 2022, but production for the U.S. market at Volvo&#8217;s South Carolina factory didn&#8217;t start until earlier this year. The delay was due to software issues that, as of early August, had not been fully resolved. Volvo told customers at that time that cars would arrive without certain features enabled, but that said features would be added after delivery via over-the-air updates.<\/p>\n<p>More recently, the EX90 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greencarreports.com\/news\/1144094_2025-volvo-ex90-price-hiked-3-300-still-missing-features\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">saw a $3,300 price increase<\/a> that Volvo attributes to higher material costs. The base price is now $81,290 with the mandatory $1,295 destination charge.
