In the earlier vehicles now being recalled, two trim pieces\u2014one just behind the windshield and another between the upper glass sections of the Model X&#8217;s signature roof-hinged &#8220;Falcon doors&#8221;\u2014may not have been applied properly.<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"static-marker-video-player-primis\"\/><\/p>\n<div class=\"image_wrapper first_wrapper\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" name=\"tccimg_100529225_m\" title=\"2016 Tesla Model X\" src=\"data:image\/png;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAD\/ACwAAAAAAQABAAACADs=\" alt=\"2016 Tesla Model X\" width=\"640\" height=\"382\" class=\"first_image lazy\" data-width=\"1024\" data-height=\"612\" data-url=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/lrg\/2016-tesla-model-x_100529225_l.jpg\" data-src-h=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/hug\/2016-tesla-model-x_100529225_h.jpg\" data-src=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/lrg\/2016-tesla-model-x_100529225_l.jpg\" data-src-l=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/lrg\/2016-tesla-model-x_100529225_l.jpg\" data-src-m=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/med\/2016-tesla-model-x_100529225_m.jpg\" data-src-s=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/sml\/2016-tesla-model-x_100529225_s.jpg\"\/><\/p>\n<p>2016 Tesla Model X<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>If the trim pieces were attached without primer between the pieces and the urethane coating used to adhere them the adhesion could weaken over time, potentially leading to the trim pieces <strong>separating from the vehicle<\/strong>, according to the NHTSA. Trim pieces separating from a car while driving present a potential hazard to other road users, although Tesla is not aware of any accidents or injuries related to this problem.<\/p>\n<p>Tesla <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greencarreports.com\/news\/1130442_tesla-recalls-model-x-model-y-for-separate-issues-both-assembly-related\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">previously conducted a recall for this issue<\/a> on Nov. 17, 2020, but found that the inspection process used was inadequate. The automaker will now again ask customers to <strong>bring their cars to service centers<\/strong> where the trim pieces will be inspected and, if necessary, replaced free of charge.<\/p>\n<div class=\"image_wrapper\"><img decoding=\"async\" name=\"tccimg_100529224_m\" title=\"2016 Tesla Model X\" src=\"data:image\/png;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAD\/ACwAAAAAAQABAAACADs=\" alt=\"2016 Tesla Model X\" width=\"640\" height=\"383\" data-width=\"1024\" data-height=\"613\" data-url=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/lrg\/2016-tesla-model-x_100529224_l.jpg\" data-src-h=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/hug\/2016-tesla-model-x_100529224_h.jpg\" data-src=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/lrg\/2016-tesla-model-x_100529224_l.jpg\" data-src-l=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/lrg\/2016-tesla-model-x_100529224_l.jpg\" data-src-m=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/med\/2016-tesla-model-x_100529224_m.jpg\" data-src-s=\"https:\/\/images.hgmsites.net\/sml\/2016-tesla-model-x_100529224_s.jpg\" class=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n<p>2016 Tesla Model X<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>While Tesla has managed to conduct several recalls with over-the-air software updates, hardware-related issues like this one, or a pair of recent <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greencarreports.com\/news\/1143620_tesla-recalls-cybertruck-for-busted-wiper-motor-loose-trim\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">recalls of the Tesla Cybertruck<\/a>, still <strong>require an in-person visit to a service center<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Tesla plans to begin mailing notification letters to owners Oct. 14, 2024. In the meantime, owners can contact Tesla customer service at 1-877-798-3752 for more information.
