Power\u2019s 2024 U.S. Tech Experience Index Study<\/a> found that the loads of features in <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/research\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:1;\">new vehicles<\/a> can be polarizing for owners, with some praising the tech and others saying it was frustrating.<\/p>\n<p>The organization ranks vehicle features on a \u201cproblems per 100 vehicles\u201d (PP100) scale. Owners reported 43.4 PP100 for gesture controls, with 21% of them saying that the feature lacks functionality, according to a new performance metric J.D. Power included in this year\u2019s study. Other tech, such as the myriad of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/press-releases\/end-to-end-autonomous-driving-and-modular-systems-navigating-the-future-of-adas-technology_50786\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:2;\">hands-free driving assistance systems<\/a>, received low scores for usefulness, and more advanced versions of those systems didn\u2019t fare much better in the study.<\/p>\n<p>That said, some <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/2023\/08\/17\/aaa-study-finds-adas-could-save-more-than-8000-lives-per-year\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:3;\">advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS)<\/a> received favorable ratings. Owners like features like blind spot monitoring, which address a specific need while driving rather than introduce an innovation that they don\u2019t understand.<\/p>\n<p>Few owners responded positively when asked about passenger display screens, with many classifying the feature as \u201cnot necessary.\u201d Automakers have pushed to include more screens in higher-end models, but only 10% of vehicles regularly have front passengers, and <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/car-dealers\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:4;\">dealers<\/a> have struggled to educate owners on how to use the displays.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/tesla\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:5;\">Tesla<\/a> is one of the most tech-forward automakers around, but it is experiencing growing pains as it expands beyond eager early adopters into more mainstream buyers. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/2024\/07\/05\/stellantis-talks-up-its-software-and-hands-free-adas-tech-coming-to-2025-models\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:6;\">Some features<\/a> in the company\u2019s repertoire trended downward in this year\u2019s study, with tech such as the direct driver monitoring system causing issues for owners.<\/p>\n<p>J.D. Power collected responses from almost 82,000 owners of 2024 model-year vehicles within 90 days of their purchase.
