href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/motorsports\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:0;\">motorsports<\/a> history in one fell swoop is a mighty challenge for any established museum, even a museum as tied to the automobile as the Petersen Automotive in Los Angeles.<\/p>\n<p>But there will be one stunning example of that display, starting September 7 and titled<a href=\"https:\/\/www.petersen.org\/driven-to-win-exhibit\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:1;\"> \u201cDriven to Win: The Automobile in Competition.\u201d<\/a> It\u2019s designed to celebrate the spectacle and drama of racing, featuring cars dating back to 1913 and some as recent as 2010 and 2018.<\/p>\n<p>In all, \u201cDriven to Win\u201d presents 11 race vehicles that represent a variety of competitive disciplines and some of the technologies that create winners on the track, examining improvements in safety, reliability, efficiency, and performance.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s a closer look at a few of the classics on show in Los Angeles, with notes from the exhibit\u2019s curators:<\/p>\n<p>\n <picture class=\"grp-full\"><source Widow\u201d by SEDCO Gallery<\/strong><\/span><br \/> Having withdrawn from official involvement in motorsport following a tragic crash at the 1955 24 Hours of <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/tag\/le+mans\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:2;\">Le Mans<\/a>, <a class=\"injectedLinkmain\" href=\"https:\/\/www.autoblog.com\/category\/gm\/\" data-ylk=\"elm:context_link;itc:0;pos:1;sec:donut-hole;cpos:3;\">General Motors<\/a> formed SEDCO (Southern Engineering Development Company) to
