{"id":80019,"date":"2025-01-29T09:03:59","date_gmt":"2025-01-29T14:03:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/autosector.com\/?p=80019"},"modified":"2025-01-29T09:03:59","modified_gmt":"2025-01-29T14:03:59","slug":"1145618_vw-id-7-us-sales","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/autosector.com\/?p=80019","title":{"rendered":"Challenging EV climate means VW ID.7 no longer coming to US"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li><strong>Volkswagen has dropped plans to sell the ID.7 in North America<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>VW&#8217;s MEB-based electric liftback was originally due to start sales in the U.S. as a 2025 model<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>VW cited a challenging EV climate as the reason for the cancellation<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motorauthority.com\/news\/1141414_2025-volkswagen-id-7-test-drive-review\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Volkswagen ID.7 electric liftback<\/a>, first shown in 2022 and initially confirmed for the U.S. market for the <strong>2025 model year<\/strong>, will no longer be sold here.<\/p>\n<p>The news was first reported on Jan. 27 by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.guideautoweb.com\/en\/articles\/77182\/volkswagen-id.7-won-t-be-sold-in-north-america-after-all\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Car Guide<\/a> and later confirmed to Motor Authority by a VW spokesman.<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"static-marker-video-player-primis\"\/><\/p>\n<p>The spokesman cited an \u201c<strong>ongoing challenging EV climate<\/strong>\u201d as the reason for the ID.7&#8217;s cancellation in the U.S. and the rest of North America but also confirmed that the automaker has additional new EVs in the pipeline for this region.<\/p>\n<p>Traditional sedans and liftbacks with sedan-like proportions are also unpopular in the current market as buyers flock to SUVs and pickup trucks. VW announced a delay for the vehicle last May.<\/p>\n<p>The ID.7 is also available as the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motorauthority.com\/news\/1142348_2025-vw-id-7-tourer-revealed\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ID.7 Tourer station wagon<\/a> in some markets, though this version was never planned for U.S. sale.<\/p>\n<p>In most markets, the ID.7 is offered with 77-kwh and 86-kwh battery options, though the U.S. was only set to receive the smaller unit. Buyers can also choose between rear- and all-wheel drive, with <strong>peak output rising to 335 hp<\/strong> in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motorauthority.com\/news\/1142576_vw-adds-sporty-gtx-option-to-id-3-and-id-7-tourer-evs\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">sporty GTX model<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>VW said it is still committed to electric mobility in the U.S. Its parent company, Volkswagen Group, is also moving forward with the launch of the <strong>U.S.-focused EV brand Scout<\/strong>, whose Terra pickup truck and Traveler SUV are scheduled to enter production at a new plant in South Carolina in 2027. However, in January, Scout&#8217;s CEO revealed that most reservations so far have been for models with a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motorauthority.com\/news\/1145478_most-scout-reservations-pick-hybrid-over-ev-says-ceo\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">series plug-in hybrid range extender<\/a>.
