BMW is about to take the performance of its M3 Touring station wagon<\/a> sold overseas up a notch with the launch of a hardcore CS version.<\/p>\n

The automaker took to social media on Jan. 28 to share photos of camouflaged prototypes for the new M3 CS Touring<\/strong>. These prototypes, based on the updated 2025 M3<\/a>, have been testing in public view since at least last summer, including at Germany\u2019s N\u00fcrburgring racetrack<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Since BMW is now teasing the high-performance wagon, its debut can’t be far off.<\/p>\n

The U.S. received an M3 CS sedan<\/strong> as a limited edition for the 2024 model year, but don\u2019t expect the wagon to make it here, as the regular M3 Touring remains off-limits for our market. BMW does offer the larger and more powerful M5 Touring here<\/a>, however.<\/p>\n

2024 BMW M3 CS<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The CS treatment for the M3 brings the same 543-hp rating<\/strong> as the hardcore M4 CSL coupe, generated by a tuned version of the twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-6 found in all M3 and M4 models. The performance increase over the 523-hp M3 Competition comes from extra boost pressure and tweaks to the engine\u2019s electronic management. Like most other M3 models, power is sent to all four wheels via an 8-speed automatic transmission.<\/p>\n

The CS treatment also includes improved body rigidity through additional bracing, more powerful brakes (with optional carbon-ceramic rotors<\/strong>), and various weight-saving measures. Expect similar upgrades to carry over to the M3 CS Touring.<\/p>\n

BMW is also testing prototypes for the next-generation M3<\/a>, both with a gas engine and a new quad-motor electric powertrain<\/strong>. However, there is still significant development ahead, as the new M3 isn\u2019t expected to arrive until around 2027.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
