{"id":80426,"date":"2025-02-12T12:04:15","date_gmt":"2025-02-12T17:04:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/autosector.com\/?p=80426"},"modified":"2025-02-12T12:04:15","modified_gmt":"2025-02-12T17:04:15","slug":"1145740_foxconn-acquiring-nissan-stake","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/autosector.com\/?p=80426","title":{"rendered":"Foxconn confirms interest in acquiring Nissan stake"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li><strong>Foxconn has confirmed talks with Nissan about a cooperation<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Foxconn said it is open to acquiring a stake in Nissan<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Foxconn wants to build EVs for established car companies, and is also in talks with Honda and Renault<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Amid reports that a proposed merger between Honda and Nissan is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motorauthority.com\/news\/1145680_honda-nissan-merger\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">close to falling apart<\/a>, Foxconn has announced it is open to acquiring a stake in Nissan.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to the media on Wednesday, Foxconn Chairman Young Liu said the company was interested in cooperating with Nissan and was open to acquiring shares in the <strong>struggling Japanese automaker<\/strong> if it would facilitate the partnership.<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"static-marker-video-player-primis\"\/><\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe did have talks about acquiring a stake in [Nissan],\u201d he said, according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/f6a9cfb0-edba-4336-a2c1-e67238c5ccea\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Financial Times<\/a>. \u201cIf [taking a stake] is necessary for cooperation, we will consider it, but buying shares is not our main goal. Our main goal is cooperation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Foxconn, the Taiwanese contract manufacturer best known for <strong>making iPhones for Apple<\/strong>, has recently expanded into electric vehicle development and production, including launching its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motorauthority.com\/news\/1137411_foxconn-foxtron-model-v-model-b-revealed\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">own EV brands<\/a>. In 2022, it acquired a car plant in Ohio as part of a deal with the now-defunct EV startup Lordstown Motors. He confirmed that Honda, Nissan, and Renault\u2014which owns 36% of Nissan\u2014were among the automakers Foxconn was in talks with regarding a <strong>potential EV supply deal<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Nissan&#8217;s sales have declined sharply in recent years, prompting the automaker to announce a restructuring plan last year that includes 9,000 job cuts and a 20% reduction in production. A merger with Honda was proposed late last year, but recent reports from Japan suggest Nissan wants to back out over concerns that Honda seeks to take control of the company.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to Foxconn, Nissan is reportedly <strong>in talks with a tech company<\/strong> about a potential collaboration.
